Today I went to Jalan bukit belacan (Ampang interchange) to oversee HT cable 11kV underground jointing. Unlike overhead jointing which use IPC, underground cable jointing are much more complicated. Jointing type used in this case is Elastic straight through joint with integrated electrode. The joint involve injecting resin inside the jointing shield to provide further insulation and to protect from outer element. Before the jointing is done, Insulation resistance (IR) test or Megger test are done on the jointing end of the cable. Megger test is a method of testing the insulation performance of the insulator and to detect any voltage leakage, the test were executed using analog insulation/continuity tester. The working principle of the test is basically applying voltage to inner part of the insulation and check for any voltage leakage on the outer surface of the insulation
For detailed information on the test, please refer Megger test

Site walk with PGP consultant to follow up with bridge construction progress. The main purpose of the follow up is to determine whether we can start street lighting progress on each bridge. As some bridge are finished before mainline, M&E team need to be aware of the construction progress.
Bridge 11 almost ready to install street ligthing
Street lighting on bridge are to be installed on parapet

I studied street lighting and civil construction drawing and I have learn to correlate between the two drawing. Besides relocation works, Street lighting, Toll collection system (TCS) and traffic control surveillance system (TCSS) are M&E's job scope. The purpose of the drawing study are in preparation for street lighting installation as some platform for the street lighting are almost ready.
