Week 7

In the morning, I drafted work cost planning for M&E works for package 1&2 with Mr Hazwan's guidance. From the cost planning, I've learned that the progress of certain works can be estimated based on cost claimed and overall cost of the contract.

In the afternoon me and Mr Tajul went to ampang intake to conduct flow rate test. We remeasured the capacity of the test tank and found that the actual capacity of the test tank were actually 20 liters rather than 18 litres, calculation adjustment for previous test need to be done.

In the morning I corrected flow rate calculation for all previous test, the test tank capacity change greatly affect the flow rate value; from average of 3.85 million litre per day to 4.25 million litre per day.

In the afternoon I went to bridge 12 with consultant to oversee overhead optic cable installation by BUMIDAN. To replace an optic cable span, the minimum span sets by TM is 2 kilometres. Cable slacks for overhead cable need to be considered to avoid tension during cold weather. Optic cable jointing method used is fusion splicing.Fusion splicing is the act of joining two optical fibre end-to-end using heat. The goal is to fuse the two fibers together in such a way that light passing through the fibers is not scattered or reflected back by the splice, and so that the splice and the region surrounding it are almost as strong as the intact fiber. The source of heat is usually an electric arc, but can also be a laser, or a gas flame, or a tungsten filament through which current is passed.

Went to sangkot villa (Hulu langat interchange) with M&E engineer to oversee trenching and pipe laying works. Galvanized Iron pipe were used as the ducting involve future road crossing. Depth of the ducting layed are 3 meters as there are Reinforced soil wall (RS wall) to be installed in the future which is buried 1.5 in depth. 6 way GI pipe ducting were laid to encase future telecom cable.
