Monday

  • Around 8.50 am, Mr. Su asked me and another interns to visit site to check on the progress of pipe welding.
  • Before that, we first went to Golf Hotel to remind the Hotel Manager, Mr. Razak, that he needs to secure sufficient water supply and diesel oil for generator.
  • This is because Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and SAJ will be informed to shut down the power supply and water supply respectively, most probably it will be started tomorrow.
  • Changing of electric cables will take less than 4 hours meanwhile changing of water pipes may take 8 hours and above.
  • After our arrival, we found out that the pipes were not welded yet, so the date for shutting down the Golf Hotel's water supply might be postponed.
  • This project is handled by Khidmat Hijau Sdn Bhd.
  • Person in charge for this project was informed to speed up the project.
  • Due to malfunction of PTP traffic light after raining, we visited the junction of PTP and Forest City Golf Resort, waiting for the technicians to repair them.

Tuesday

  • In the morning, Mr. Su and Mr. Kong brought me and another intern to supervise the piping work of Khidmat Hijau Sdn Bhd.
  • It was started with excavation at Golf's site as to replace the HDPE water pipe and corrugated HDPE protective pipe for electric cable.
  • While waiting for excavation, we went to another place nearby Bridge R03 to test the soil quality.
  • The outcome of this test is that approximately 6 meter height of soil is all silt which is not suitable for burying pipes as the pipes will sink or silt will collapse.
  • After coming back to excavation site, the existing water pipe was found to have leakage, causing water to gradually leak more.
  • The water supply was shut down and water was sucked out by water pump.
  • Right angle pipe connector was attached to 2 HDPE water pipes.
  • This work was expected to finish before 12 am, so that Golf Hotel will have sufficient water supply.

Wednesday

  • Around 8.45 am, due to pipe leakage of yesterday's piping work, Mr. Su and I went to Golf's site for investigation.
  • We discovered that the water shooting up in the sky from the leakage of pipe connector, about 2 meters.
  • This is because of high pressure from the direcion of water supply to the Golf Hotel.
  • The Golf Hotel has no water supply since this morning.
  • We tried to turn off the water meter at the connector by closing its valve but to no avail.
  • It showed that the sluice valve connected was malfunction as there was no sign of water to stop leaking.
  • We went to another place to shut down the overall water supply of Golf Hotel and it finally worked.
  • Excavation was carried out to detect the defects in water piping by Khidmat Hijau Sdn Bhd.
  • The repairment is expected to take less than 1 day to finish.
  • During free time, I continued to learn basic skills in AutoCAD.

Thursday

  • To solve the water supply problem in Golf Hotel, Mr. Su, Mr. Kong and I went to Golf's site for inspection.
  • Upon the arrival of foreman from Khidmat Hijau Sdn Bhd, we discussed on the sequence of doing works, starting from excavation to pipe cutting, and cutting work is required to finish by 12pm.
  • I also helped translating Mr. Su's instruction from Mandarin to Malays, to the workers.
  • While Mr. Kong and Mr. Su went to Shattuck St. Mary's International School for street light inspection, I was instructed to stay at Golf's site to supervise the excavation and pipe cutting work, and report to them in case of any incident occurred.
  • I also captured some pictures for Mr. Su to do presentation slides for weekly meeting.
  • Since there is still time before knocking off, I spent it to learn some AutoCAD skills from online tutorial.

Friday

  • Early in the morning, Mr. Su went to junction to check on the malfunction PTP traffic light.
  • Therefore, I followed Mr. Kong to Golf's site to supervise the excavation of previous spot for pipe jacking.
  • After conversation with the supervisor at there, the contractor in charge is Bras Venture Berhad, and the excavation work was done by the sub-contractor.
  • Several pictures were taken and sent to Mr. Kong to report the progress of the work.
  • After lunch break, around 2 pm, Mr. Kong and Mr. Su brought me and another intern to go the site in front of Golf Hotel.
  • The excavation had been done, and power supply of Golf Hotel will be shut down from 3.30 pm to 9 pm.
  • After our inspection on the replaced electric cable, hotel authority, technician and contractor shut down entire power supply, and waiting for arrival of TNB representative.
  • I had learnt that some machinery in hotel take longer time to shut down completely (approximately 10 minutes), any immediate power outrage will cause damage to the machinery.
  • The purpose of waiting TNB staffs is to ensure the safety and civilized construction for this electric cable replacement due to change of 11KV route.
  • After TNB personnel arrived the site, he first checked on the electrical panel room, whether all electricity had been cut down. Then, he used certain equipment to detect the signal from the electric cable.
  • Getting confirmation that it is safe, technician started the works.
  • From this site visit, I also gained some knowledge about three phase electric cable indicated by three colours (red, blue, yellow) and some safety measures before any electrical works, such as use of remote control to avoid potential explosion of control panel.

Saturday

  • From 9 am to 12 pm, there was a weekly meeting which required Resource, Palace Project, Road & Bridge and Municipal Division to be involved,
  • This meeting started with presentation from Dr. K.K. about Forest City Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Evaluation Report.
  • He mentioned the difficulties and challenges in proceeding STP 1 construction due to lack of experience, lack of equipment and lack of professional or expert specialized in environmental engineering.
  • These reasons caused the construction project of STP 1 to delay from 7 - 8 months to 15 months, approximately twice of the normal duration.
  • Forest City also introduced high technology sewage system which is very rare and costly in Malaysia.
  • The meeting continued with presentation from Road & Bridge (Mr. He) and Municipal (Mr. Su, Mr. Wang and Mr. Yap).
  • Director of the department, Dr. Chen Ai Lu also commented on the priority in doing certain project (such as Plot 3, Golf's site and STP) and relative measures to solve the problems.
