After going to construction site at P4, P5 and P26, it is common for me to see reinforcement bar everywhere.
Therefore, I made some researches to understand better on its functions, material properties and mechanical properties.
Reinforcement bar which is also known as ‘rebar’ in its short form, is a steel bar or mesh of steel wires used as a tension device in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures to strengthen and hold the concrete in compression.
Concrete is strong under compression but having weak tensile strength.
Rebar significantly increases the tensile strength of the structure. Rebar's surface is often patterned to form a better bond with the concrete.
Carbon steel is one of the most common type for rebar, which consisting of hot-rolled round bars with deformation patterns.
There are other popular types, for instance, stainless steel, and composite sections made of glass fiber, carbon fiber, or basalt fiber.
These alternate types tend to be more expensive or have lesser mechanical properties, which serve the purpose of fulfilling certain performance requirements.

A rebar spacer is a device that secures the reinforcing steel or ‘rebar’ in reinforced concrete structures as the rebar is assembled in place prior to the final concrete pour.
The spacers are left in place for the pour to keep the reinforcing in place, and become a permanent part of the structure.
The main categories of rebar spacers are:
Linear Spacers (Π-section profiles, H-section profiles, or other 3 dimensional shapes),
Point Spacers (wheel spacers, various tower or chair-like shapes)
Rebar spacer can be divided in three main raw material categories, which are concrete spacers, plastic spacers and metal spacers.

Since there is more free time in the afternoon, I made some researches on my future Final Year Project title.
Based on the conversation with the lecturer, I had decided to choose the research field of Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC).
Stress corrosion cracking is the growth of crack formation in a corrosive environment, and SCC will lead to unexpected sudden failure of ductile metals subjected to tensile stress, especially at elevated temperature.
Special environment is critical for SCC to occur, as only low concentration of specific highly active chemicals is required for the material used (usually alloys are more commonly used).

Early in the morning, I followed Mr. Su to visit several places with purpose to check the water meter stand.
These places include Golf Hotel, P18 and nearby the Malay village.
We also went to check for the RMU installation in Nusajaya Tech Park, outside the Forest City.
Water pressure, water consumption, time were recorded under this inspection.
Abnormal pressure readings were noticed because of 2 reasons, which are low water pressure and SAJ shut down the water supply due to some misunderstanding.
If this problem is not solved, water meter stand has to be demolished and rebuild a new one to pump more water in order to fulfil the increasing daily water consumption.

In the morning, since there will be FKM supervisor, Prof Jamaliah’s visit to my company, I made some arrangements such as booking meeting room, lending projector as well as discussing with other interns on presentation sequence.
I spent some time to do the presentation slides which is going to be presented on next Monday (20 August 2018).
There was a weekly meeting after lunch break, from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm in Design Studio meeting room.
The focus of the meeting was on PDC 7 of P26 and P23, water supply issue in Golf’s project and sewage system.
Chen Ai Lu also mentioned the importance of having time frame, maintenance and protection of water pipeline and electric cables.
He also emphasized on the feedback of problem occurred should be reported immediately to him, so that disturbance will not be done to other department or contractor.
