  • Company off day

Monday

  • In the morning, admin in my department asked the interns to install TeamViewer, which is a programme for remove control the personal computer.
  • This is for the Information Technology (IT) colleague to remove control our laptops so that we can connect to company's printer.
  • Since there was free time, I spent it to polish my AutoCAD skills by constructing floor plan. 
  • Since there was emergency case occurred, we followed Mr. Su to check the defects in electric cables during lunch time. These defects caused complete power outage in Golf Hotel.
  • We had understood the situation there by communicating with the hotel manager, En. Abdul Razak and crews at hotel's generator.
  • We also met with the contractor for electric cable in order to plan for location to bury the cable.
  • It took a very long time to wait for crews of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to arrive the switch board room. It is necessary for them to check the electric panel before testing to run.
  • Supervisor also gave me some works regarding verification of excel data (Variation Order). I have to create another excel table using these data, so that it can be put in the company system.

Tuesday

  • In the morning, I continued yesterday's works which is doing excel file for Variation Order (VO).
  • After several attempts by supervisor, we found out that the excel file cannot be imported to company system due to difference in fonts.
  • Therefore, it is necessary for me to key in the all the data into the system manually.
  • I also need to install attachment in order to attach some documents into company system.
  • Then, I continued key in the data for other 3 documents.

Wednesday

  • In the morning, my supervisor discovered some mistakes and asked me to make change to several files saved to the company system.
  • Since there is no ways to modify them, I had to re-type some of the files into the system.
  • Company system is linked to China server which leads to slow loading and uploading speed.
  • Before afternoon, I made it to finish all the files and saved to the system.
  • In the afternoon, I followed Mr. Su and another colleague Mr. Kong for a site visit at Golf Hotel's site.
  • The purpose is to check the progress of pipe jacking construction for electric cable, and also the installation of HDPE corrugated protective pipes for electric cable.
  • Pipe jacking or pipe ramming is a method of laying underground pipes without digging a trench, in which the pipes are assembled in an access shaft and then pushed into position by hydraulic jack.
  • We disccused with the contractor's engineers on the depth of pipe jacking as it is necessary to jack the pipes deeper to avoid the stone layer. Pipe jacking is only applicable for soft soil or water-rich soft soil but not the stone which impedes the pushing of pipe.

Thursday

  • All the interns were informed to gather at Sales Gallery conference room on third floor.
  • After registration, staffs from Human Resources Department gave us briefing on this training.
  • It started with interacting session which is an opportunity to get to know each other.
  • Then, there was a ice breaking game which requires our teamwork to succeed.
  • We had learnt to improve ourselves from the past mistakes, as stated by company chairman, Mr Yang that it is normal to face obstacle but the key to success is to review the mistake we made.
  • This training also invited speakers who are experienced workers in Country Garden.
  • We also had a tour around sales gallery in order to gain deeper understanding in Forest City project.
  • From today's training, I learned more knowledge about company operating management system, strategic development and human resources.

Friday

  • Around 8.50 am, all the interns gathered at Conference Room 3 of Sales Gallery floor 3 for training.
  • The training session started with dance, continued with talk given by speaker Miss Kavy from Human Resource Department.
  • This talk is about etiquette which give people comfortability while presenting ourselves.
  • We also have some activities and role play session, each of us was divided into groups.
  • There was also another talk given by a doctorate who is an experienced worker in Project Management Department.
  • I get to know the difficulties and challenges faced by this department due to language difference, resource, lack of skilled labour etc.
  • After the lunch break, another talk regarding tips on Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint was presented by representative from Human Resource Department.
  • Lastly, this training ended with examination prepared by the company which requires our understanding during these 2 days.

Saturday

  • Early in the morning, everyone was preparing for briefing about what they had done for the past half year.
  • This is because there was a meeting from 9 am to 12 pm, and involvement of all employee is compulsory.
  • This briefing focuses on individual tasks for the past half year, challanges faced, individual strengths & weaknesses and future planning for the remaining half year.
  • Director of Municipal Resource Department, Dr. Chen Ai Lu also gave a speech on employee's performance.
  • He stated that there have been much improvements for all and he is satisfied with that. 
  • After lunch break, manager, Wang Jun asked me and other interns to do some translation works for some documents.
  • We were required to finish these translations by next Tuesday, the requirement is translating Chinese to English.
