Monday
  • After our arrival at HR department in Forest City Phoenix Hotel, several forms had been filled up.
  • For the briefing session, admin brought us to visit some important places such as restaurant, project office, meeting rooms, sales gallery, and lastly the resource management division.
  • Each of us had been distributed different tasks. For my part, I received several documents regarding application of variation order due to damaged pipes and inspection on progress payment and project progress.
  • The job scope is more related to quantity survey.
  • I had been assigned to read through and get familiar with these documents.
  • Recess period is from 12pm to 2pm, and the work ends at 6pm.

Tuesday
  • Forest City is a joint project between Country Garden PacificView and Esplanade Danga 88.
  • Under this project, I had learnt that there are many separated regions including international schools, villas, mansions, shopping streets and bangalows.
  • Resource Management is in charge of electricity, water reticulation (piping system) , sewage system and others.
  • Supervisor had lead me for a site visit on pump station and sewage treatment plant.
  • The main purpose of this visit is inspection and handover of sewage treatment & pump station from Goodwater.
  • Pump station pumps sewage with higher power to nearby sewage treatment site through a 200m pipe.
  • The sewage system can withstand daily use of 3000 PE which is equivalent to 3000 individuals.
  • It is limited to biological waste only but not chemical product.
  • Technicians were also there to understand how the system works for future maintenance and repair.
  • Grit and Grease filter was necessary before treatment to get rid of sands and oil, as well as going through homogenisation tanks and aeration tanks.
  • Quality Control Engineer from Engineering & Technology Department supervises the whole process, whether the construction follows the standards fixed.

Wednesday
  • Supervisor had assigned the task to verify the Variation Order (VO) with contract and other supporting evidence (email, wechat printscreen etc).
  • VO is an alternation to the scope of works in a construction contract in the form of an addition, substitution or omission from the original scope of works.
  • Since there were changes from the original work scopes, VO  was issued by the the company Ronser Bio-Tech Berhad.
  • Supervisor had given me the contract with clauses in order to compare with the descriptions in VO.
  • After verifying these documents, it had been found out that the VO does not fulfil the contract term specified as additional fees were asked by Ronser Bio-Tech.
  • Thus, the VO is mostly being rejected.
  • Another task is to type the contradiction of Amendment of Clause in contract with the descriptions in VO.
  • Clause that is contradicted with the description in VO was stated in table form in excel file.
  • Remarks were made to clarify the reason of rejecting certain amount (in RM) in VO.

  • Engineer had given me the water reticulation system drawing for phase 1 Island 1.
  • The drawing is in AutoCAD which I have not learnt before.
  • Water reticulation system includes components such as MSCL pipes, butterfly valve, sluice valve, air valve and scour valve.
  • MSCL pipe is pipe that is internally coated with a mortar like compound that acts as a barrier between the carbon steel pipe and the process. It is commonly being used in the transmission of water and sewage application.
  • Butterfly valve is a valve that isolates or regulates the flow of fluid, with closing mechanism like a rotating disc.
  • Sluice valve is a gate valve which opens by lifting a round or rectangle gate out of the path of fluid. It is frequently being used to permit or prevent the flow of liquids but not for regulating flow.
  • Air valve is place to evacuate the air as air can enter the line. Air trapped in the line is continually moving in and out of the solution, depending on temperature and pressure.
  • Scour valve is to allow periodic flushing of the lines to remove sediment and to allow the line to be drained for maintenance and repair work.
  • All works need to be executed according to SAJ specifications.
  • All pipes crossing and approach roads shall be mild steel.
  • MSCL pipes require cathodic protection by specialist.
  • Cathodic protection is protection of a metal structure from corrosion under water by making it act as an electrical cathode.
  • Sacrificial metal acts as anode while the protected metal acts as cathode. The sacrificial metal will corrode instead of the protected one. External DC power source is required to provide sufficient current for electrolysis to occur.
