• There are 2 type of essential service which are Primary and Secondary.
• Primary are those which need to be maintained in continuous operation such as steering gear, propeller and some of the electrical equipment for electric propulsion plant.
• Primary are those which not need to be maintained in continuous operation such as windlasses, thrusters and fuel oil transfer pump.
