Chapter 6 - Types of System Unit
There are six types of system unit, that is
- Desktop
It contains electronic components and selected secondary storage.
- Media center
It is similar as desktop but media center system unit use powerful desktop system hardware with specialized graphic cards for interfacing with TVs.
- Notebook
also knows as laptop and contains input devices, secondary devices and electronic components
- Netbook
It is like notebook but smaller than notebook, less powerful and less expensive than notebook. It is often used for web browsing and email because it is small and easily to carry when get out.
- Tablet PC
There are 2 types of tablet PC :
- First type is like notebook computer which supports the use of pen to input commands and data.
- Second type called slate tablet PC, it is also similar to notebook but monitor is attached to the system unit and does not have an integrated keyboard. It uses mobile OS and accepts gesture input. Usually it is designed to display content and can display movie well than handheld computer.
Tablet PC have bigger screen than handheld computer to display the contents, so it is often used by business man.
- Handheld Computer
As the name of handheld computer, its size is the size which our hand can hold. Our smartphone is a type of handheld computer. Palm computers which contain an entire computer system is another type of handheld computer.
The difference between a traditional and a slate tablet PC is traditional tablet PC is more thick and heavy than slate tablet PC now. Nowadays, tablet PC is designed for a light weight and thin size for easy to carry when get out. The function also getting improve rather than traditional tablet PC. The technology used for tablet PC nowadays is high technology compare to the traditional tablet PC. For example, the memory chip inside the tablet PC now is only a small chip with large memory space.
