Chapter 1 - Information Technology

There are five parts in an information system.

• People : People are end users and play an important role in using computer to build an information system.
• Procedures : A computer has its own security rules and guidelines based on its brand and manufacturer. It is provided to people for computer operations.
• Hardware : It is what you can see in a computer device. For examples, circuits, chips, wires, speakers, plugs and stuff. They built up the basic computer requirements such as system units, keyboard, mouse, monitor and other devices.
• Software : It is what you cannot see, that is programs and codes which running in computer. It controls the hardware of computers and how the computer works depends on software. There are two types of software which is system software and application software.
• Data : It consists of raw and unprocessed facts including texts, numbers, images and sound. Processed data becomes information and stored in computer as digital data.

People is the most important part in an information system. People contact with computer either directly or indirectly. For example, people direct contact with computer by connect to internet, search information online, find job opportunity through online platform and create documents using word processing program.
