Chapter 1 - Types of Computer
We have four types of computers, that is supercomputers, mainframe computers, minicomputers and microcomputers.
Supercomputer is a special high-capacity and most powerful computer which used in large corporations. It is typically used to process large amounts of data.
Mainframe computer are good capable in great processing speed and data storage although not powerful as supercomputer. It occupy specially wired, air-conditioned rooms. For example, insurance company use it to process information about millions of policyholders.
Minicomputer also known as mid-range computer and referred as server. It is not powerful than mainframe computer but it is powerful than a personal computer. Originally it is used by medium-size companies or departments of large companies to support their processing needs. It is most widely used to support end users for such specific needs such as retrieving data from a database or access to application software.
The most common type of computer is microcomputer. It is also known as personal computer (PC), most widely used nowadays and fast-growing. There are five types of microcomputers: desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones which is most widely used handheld computer, and wearables such as Apple’s watch.
