Industrial Training Week 9

Day

Date

Description

Monday

6/8/18

- Learning about resin used on bleed air ducting outer shell for C-130 aircraft.

- Resin used is fiberglass.

- Fiberglass is a glass-reinforced plastic.

- It’s a material that resists both compressive and tensile forces well.

Tuesday

7/8/18

- Learn about MIL-R-7575C type fiberglass.

- MIL-R-7575C is the current type of resin used on bleed air ducting outer shell for C-130 aircraft.

Wednesday

8/8/18

- Discuss the problem with the MIL-R-7575C type fiberglass.

- The problem are:

  - pot life is too short (working life)

  - emit bad smell

  - too viscous

- Will cause discomfort to technician in daily work then will have a bad impact to end product as well.

Thursday

9/8/18

- Learn about Araldite LY5052 type fiberglass.

- Araldite LY5052 type properties

  - Low viscosity, easy impregnation of reinforcement materials.

  - Long pot life (2 hours for 100 ml at ambient), ample processing time allows production of big objects.

  - High temperature resistance (glass transition temperature) after ambient cure.

Friday

10/8/18

- Discuss whether to choose between Araldite LY5052 and MIL-R-7575C for the resin.

- Compare Araldite LY5052 type with MIL-R-7575C type.

- Will choose the better one after further discussion.
