UHMT1012-42 GRADUATE SUCCESS ATTRIBUTES

Graduate Success Attributes is course that introduce to basic concept of becoming an entrepreneur. Most of the syllabus consists of skills and etiquette needed to perform successfully when promoting product. The assignments related to this course are mostly in groups specifically needed each of us to communicate and brainstorm on our product.  

During this semester, we were given 3 consecutive assignments on marketing our product based on the skill that we have learned in the course. These tasks mainly test our skills in basic entrepreneurship especially on promoting our product.

1st Assignment

Our first assignment is to conduct a 1 hour minute meeting to discuss and draft out our product based on our previous design thinking project in course SECP1513. We have selected a bed detector to detect the patient falling from the bed. Our main mission is to improve and innovate the project available so that it can be commercialized.

2nd Assignment

Our second assignment is more towards on creating the web page for our company and  product brochure. Previously, we have decided to give tittle to the bed detector which is De Cama Bed Detector. De Cama means bed in Spanish as based on our research, we found out that the phrase also comfort the Spain people there.  Our product mainly consists a set of sensors which can be arranged randomly based on the user's preference.

For the website specifically, we mainly discuss the company's mission and vision as well as our goals. We also include about us section where we introduce each members of the groups with some details about our background. We found out that creating a website is better than editing company profile on Microsoft Words because everyone can be involved to collaborate and edit any mistakes made in the website. 

Next, our product brochure is mostly consists on details in each sensors. Moreover, the product brochure is also included with 50% discount to the early birds where we thought this will be a nice gamble since our company is still new and lack of exposure to the business world.

3rd Assignment

The third assignment instruct us to conduct a presentation 3-minutes pitching video with lean business canvas video. The video should contain the description our product and also brief explanation of our company. Each members of the group has been assigned specific task during the session. I was in charge of recording the video with Theresa. Teh Jing Ling was in charge to help Theresa on making the slides. Our pitching video was conducted by two speakers who were Irfan and Yu Xuan.

The lean business canvas is mostly the proposal of our project. It allows the reader for a much easy assessment as all details are included in one table. 

SUMMARY

I have learnt a lot from this assignment. One of them is the importance to work in a group and value the teamwork element when completing the task given. Knowing we can only meet through Discord and other video conferences app, it is hard to assign each task specifically and also to conduct a smooth discussion. However, each of us finally managed to cope with this situation and allow us to experience the real life work situation. Since we never know when the pandemic is going to end, it is good practice for all of us to be prepared on setting up meeting and collaborate on writing reports. What can I summarize from this assignment is that it is crucial to know your teammates and get along with them first. This is because once we managed to obtain a good understanding on one another, there should be less misconception occur when doing the task together.
