Graduate Attributes:

Mini Report:
This program is a talk about mental health and suicide awareness. The counselling unit of UTM KL hosted this talk and the speaker is a senior psychology officer of this unit. This program aims to raise psychosocial awareness about suicide and prevention through realizing the values of our lives.
Suicide is a significant concern in Malaysia, underscoring the importance of promoting mental health awareness. Effective communication is a key tool in providing support to those facing mental health challenges. To better engage with individuals in distress, it's essential to listen actively, offer empathy, educate ourselves about mental health issues, avoid stigmatizing language, encourage professional help, maintain ongoing connections, and respect personal boundaries. By fostering open, non-judgmental discussions and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, we can collectively work to create a more compassionate society that addresses these issues, ultimately reducing the risk of suicide.
I gained two graduate attribute from this program which is communication skills and how to be a global citizen. I learned the different methods to communicate with individuals with mental health issues and was able to educate myself about mental health as well as be well-informed on how to help individuals in distress. Moreover, I realized how mental health is a global issue that we should be engaging with and advocating for.
Self Reflection:
Participating in the mental health and suicide awareness talk by UTM KL's Counseling Unit was eye-opening. This program highlighted the pressing issue of suicide in Malaysia and the significance of mental health awareness. Effective communication strategies, such as active listening and empathy, were emphasized, along with the importance of eradicating stigmatizing language and respecting personal boundaries.
This talk enriched me with two valuable graduate attributes: improved communication skills and a deeper sense of global citizenship. I learned how to better communicate with individuals facing mental health challenges and gained essential knowledge about mental health support. I also realized the global nature of mental health issues and the need for advocacy. This experience has empowered me to play a more active role in creating a compassionate and supportive society.

Mini Report:
This program is hosted by the Counselling Centre and it’s a talk about vaginismus given by a obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr Maisarah binti Ahmad.
This program aims to raise awareness about vaginismus and educate attendants about the importance of sexual health education especially for married couples. Vaginismus is a medical condition which can make penetration, including sexual intercourse, painful or even impossible. This condition is often rooted in psychological factors, such as anxiety, fear, or past traumatic experiences, and it can have a significant impact on an individual's sexual and emotional well-being. It's essential to seek professional help and support to manage and overcome vaginismus effectively.
From this talk, the main graduate attribute gained is global citizen. Educating myself about taboo social issues pertaining to health allows me to be informed enough to engage with global issues that we should be more aware of.
Self Reflection:
Attending the talk on vaginismus by Dr. Maisarah binti Ahmad was eye-opening. The program aimed to raise awareness about this medical condition, highlighting the importance of sexual health education, especially for married couples.
One key takeaway from the talk is how important education and information is to be a global citizen. It emphasizes that global citizenship isn't limited to international matters but extends to sensitive health issues that affect people worldwide. By educating ourselves about such topics, we can engage with global concerns more effectively and contribute to a compassionate and informed world.
This program left me more informed and inspired to address sensitive topics and contribute to a more supportive community where people are empowered to seek help for their well-being.

Date : 1 November 2022
Venue : Netball Court, Kolej Siswa Jaya
Organizer : UTM KL
Graduate Attributes:
- Leadership and Teamworking Skills
- Adaptability
Position:
Participant and Member of the Netball Team.
Mini Report:
The Sports Festival 2022 took place at Kolej Siswa Jaya, KL and featured a competitive atmosphere involving various societies within UTM KL, including but not limited to CHEMPRO, Foundation, ELECSYS, PREMECH, and SE. This multi-week event encompassed a wide range of sports, including volleyball, sprinting, futsal, badminton, basketball, table tennis, and ultimate frisbee.
The primary graduate attribute fostered by this event is teamwork and collaboration. This arises from the need for students from different backgrounds to come together, forming teams or pairs to compete effectively. It also assesses their ability to work cohesively in a sports setting, often with little notice.
In summary, the Sports Festival 2022 provided a refreshing break for students from their demanding academic schedules. It encouraged physical activity and promoted unity among students from various societies, as well as fostering camaraderie within the societies themselves.
Self Reflection:
By participating in Sports Festival 2022, I was given the opportunity to make meaningful connections which left me with fond memories and new friends. It also allowed me to relieve stress through physical activities.
During the festival, I joined the netball team and throughout each round, I played two positions, the goalkeeper and wing attack. I have always enjoyed playing netball but this was my first time playing an offense position so it was refreshing to learn a different role in netball. Upon joining the team, I didn’t know anyone on the team so I got to make new friends and bonded with them through playing netball.
This experience taught me the value of teamwork and adaptability. I had to learn the different positions in netball quickly in less than a week. I practiced by myself and with my teammates and watched videos to get better. I also had to get used to playing with teammates I didn't know before.
In the end, the Sports Festival 2022 was a great way for me to try new things and meet new people. Even though we didn't win our netball game, I learned a lot and made new friends, which was even more important.
