Second laboratory experiment was carried out at Simulation Lab on November 20, 2019. The goal of this experiment is to learn the basics of building a virtual instrument (VI) and to learn how to use a virtual instrument to analyze and save a signal. Our lecturer, Dr. Anita Binti Ahmad, gave a short briefing on the study before we began our experiment. We used computer with NI LabVIEW technology pre-installed in this experiment. As our guidance, we were provided with a lab sheet.
Next, we learned how to launch a basic Virtual Instrument (VI). We fitted the front panel with a knob. This knob is capable of controlling a signal's amplitude. Next, by using a signal simulator, we learned to change the signal. After setting the signal as in the lab sheet, we need to connect to the block diagram using wire before running it. Now we're running the VI, we can see the emergence of a signal. We can change this signal, either high frequency or low frequency. We followed the next step in the lab sheet and learned that by using the merge signals, we could display two or more signals in one graph. Dr. Anita said that we can design and save our own waveform graph as it will help us improve our knowledge on how to use the VI.
Finally, we are given the task of checking our knowledge about how to use the VI. The task was quite challenging because we have to use different signals, amplitudes and colors on the same graph. Overall, I think that this experiment has been a success because we can complete the task. Thanks a lot to Dr. Anita Binti Ahmad because after this experiment we are able to build a simple virtual instrument.
