WONG VI LYN

For my industrial training from 20 July 2020 to 10 October 2020, I carried out my training at MPC Cleantech Sdn. Bhd. located at 507, Jalan Perusahaan, Taman Industri Waja, 09000 Kulim, Kedah. Formerly known as MyLaco Precision Cleaning Sdn. Bhd., it was established by company director, Alfred Chee Yee Fong, on 24 June 2005 before changing its name to MPC Cleantech Sdn. Bhd. on 24 August 2015. The principle activities of the company includes

• Specialize in cleaning, contamination control and transport-ready packaging for silicon wafer carrier/containers.
• Cater to companies that requires the manufacturing of their products under very stringent conditions with low or very low contamination particle level control, such as the semiconductor, medical, orthopedic and F&B industries.

I was attached under Process Improvement Department, whereby this department is in charge of assisting the company in developing new products, assisting company in scaling up process and also in charge of the research and development of the company. As for my job scope, I was supposed to be assisting company`s director in transforming lab scale process into a commercial scale process (scaling up process). I am also responsible in assisting in company`s process operations in daily basis. 

During my industrial training at MPC Cleantech Sdn. Bhd., there are 3 major projects/activities that I have took part in.

1. Assist in product inspection with TexChem Pack Sdn. Bhd.
2. Determining the effect of different detergents on different types of adhesives
3. Assist in the collaboration project between MPC Cleantech Sdn. Bhd. and School of Chemical Sciences, USM

During my 12 weeks of industrial training, I have come to adapt to the working society and also improve myself to be a better person. I have learnt how to mix around and communicate with my coworkers freely. As an introverted person, I am happy that I can get out of my comfort zone and even learnt to communicate often without fear. Next, I was able to complete the tasks given rather quickly due to my habit of working fast. I often work individually due to the fact that I am the only intern in the company. In the collaboration project between my company and USM, I work together with a PhD student. During this period, I am often faced with difficulties as I had no idea about the project at all. By the time I became an Intern at MPC Cleantech Sdn. Bhd., the project was already ongoing for a year. Hence, I was rather on edge and lost. However, I told myself that as long as I am willing to learn and make effort, I will be able to catch up soon. Fortunately, after spending time doing self-study everyday, I was able to catch up to the project. Because of this, I was able to improve my critical thinking skills, whereby I can analyse and evaluate a situation or issue before giving suggestions to solve problems faced. 

I am thankful that I carried out my industrial training at MPC Cleantech Sdn. Bhd. for I was treated like a family even when I will only spend 3 months there. Everyone in the company was kind and helpful. All in all, it was an awesome experience to carry out my industrial training there.

This is a video of me presenting the question given by our lecturer, Dr Nabilah. Through this activity, I managed to get involved in a team discussion. 

Recently, we learnt about unit operation in our Mass and Energy Balance subject and I got to know that the term `unit operation` is used basically everywhere in the chemical industrial design. Unit operation normally involves physical and chemical transformations and a process would require many unit operations in order to produce a desired product. In my pairing assignment, I have decided to choose the Ostwald process as my reference. 

I was the secretary of this event and I was happy that there is such an event carried out. I think there should be more event of this kind, that can help undergraduates like us to release our stress and be relaxed even just for a while. This event was carried out in the last minute and although it was a little disappointing that not many people join since it was carried out almost near the final examination season, the program can still be carried out till the end. We watched Gonjiam : The Haunted Asylum and after the movie, a short questionnaire was given to the participants for them to express their opinion towards the movie. I hope that this event would be carried out again and this time hopefully, we will organise this event on a more suitable date.

Majlis Aspirasi Gemilang is an event carried out to celebrate the first year students of all courses. We went to Dewan Kampung Pengantin and I was so shocked that there is such a beautiful and modern place and to be honest, it was grand. However, I was a little disappointed that the food was not that good and limited and is definitely not enough for us. Overall, it was a great event and the place is beautifully decorated.

This project is an unforgettable experience for me. I can clearly remember this project as we put very much effort in completing this project. Programming is definitely a difficult subject that I learnt. I can still remember the days where we stay back in the campus till night just to finish the coding of this project. We did many research and asked for help from our lecturer and seniors. At last, we managed to complete the coding in a week. The happiest moment was when the lecturer said our presentation and project was very good. Me and my teammates were so happy as our hard work did not come to a waste. I was thankful to have such great teammates and lecturer. Although the process was difficult, it had a fruitful ending.

This is basically the most challenging activity for me as I am the director for this event. Being director for the first time in my life, this is definitely a new experience for me as I need to lead a group of members in carrying out this activity. Thankfully, my team mates are all responsible person and we certainly cooperated well in the process. This activity was carried out successfully and I was happy since it did not go wrong like I thought it would be. I would like to express my sincere thank to all those who are involved. I know that I have much more places to improve, I hope that I would have the chance to improve myself in the future and maybe take part as high committee in other activities.

Japan Day is an annual event carried out in the campus to introduce Japanese culture and it is an activity open to the public. This is one of the earliest event that I took part in as a crew from Chempro ( Chemical Process Engineering ). During Japan Day, Chempro crews sold Takoyaki, Yoyo ice and many more. This is a great experience as I get to learn how to sell food and beverages. At the end of this activity, we are very happy that we got to earn more than what we aimed and expected. It was definitely a successful sales. Besides, it was the day where I wore Yukata for the first time in my life. It was a really unforgettable experience. However, the process of wearing Yukata is a little difficult especially the part where we need to wear the belt. If it weren`t the experienced committees there to help us, we would definitely have a hard time wearing the belt. Overall, it was a really fun day.

Circle of Stars is an activity organised by the language academy of UTMKL with English teachers of SMKTTDI held in Perpustakaan Awam Shah Alam in hope to share and cultivate potential students of scoring straight A`s in PT3. Me and my friend volunteered to take part in this program and in this program, we are asked to become the mentor of the students and guide them in their activities. Not only that, we are also asked to share some of our study techniques and experiences to the students in order to motivate them in studying and pursue their future. Throughout this activity, I am happy that I was able to look after them and this made me reflects myself back when I was their age. I hope that my advise for them would motivates them in pursuing their dreams.

This semester is the first semester that I learnt Japanese Language and for this subject, we are asked to interview a Japanese lecturer as an assignment. I find this task challenging as I was still a basic learner and I have never spoke in Japanese before. During the interview, I was nervous as I am afraid that I will not be able to converse in Japanese but thankfully, Dr. Hara is a funny person and he jokes with us, making me feel a little relaxed. Not only that, he even translates his answers to English every time he finished answering our questions in Japanese.  I am very thankful that he did that as I can understand what he means. This task gave me a little more confidence to converse in Japanese and I hope that I could improve my Japanese in the future for a clearer and more fluent conversation to take place.
