The Hire Me Webinar 2.0 was organised on the 18th of November 2023 by Perwakilan Mahasiswa Sarawak UTM. The speaker invited was Mr.Patrick Tan, the founder of Dr. Resume Services. This resume seminar was particularly beneficial for enhancing our thinking skills, adaptability and enterprising skills. It's primary focus was on empowering individuals to effectively communicate their qualifications and accomplishments in a professional setting.
In terms of thinking skills, this webinar encouraged participants to think critically about our career goals, accomplishments and skills we possess. We learnt to strategically analyse and prioritise information to create a resume that effectively communicates our qualifications and experiences to potential employers. Next, learning to tailor a resume for different job opportunities demonstrates adaptability. This resume webinar taught us how to adapt our resumes to varying professional contexts. This resume webinar was also inherently enterprising, teaching us how to market ourselves effectively in competitive job market.
This webinar mainly consisted of two sessions, resume writing and an interview workshop. The resume writing included a professional resume format, common mistakes of resume writing, how to determine unique selling points for resume writing, SWOT analysis for resume writing and applicant tracking system. As for the interview workshop, it included interview preparation, interview skills, as well as tips and strategies of answering interview questions. The webinar ended with a Q&A session for those who had some unanswered questions.
SELF-REFLECTION :
Participating in this resume webinar was a strategic and beneficial choice for me as someone who has not had much experience writing resumes. Insights into industry trends, current hiring practices and effective job search strategies empowered me with the knowledge needed to navigate the competitive job market successfully. Access to expert guidance and advice further enriched my learning experience, offering valuable tips on tailoring application materials and standing out in a crowded job market.
The interactive nature of the webinar provided a unique opportunity to seek advice and gain a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of job applications. This experience not only enhanced my resume-writing abilities but also instilled a newfound confidence in presenting my professional journey.
This aspect of the experience went beyond skill development, contributing significantly to my personal growth and expanding my professional network. Looking back, the decision to participate in the resume webinar was not just about acquiring skills but also about gaining self-awareness and refining my career goals that continue to shape my professional journey.
