MINI REPORT :
Being a part of the facilitating crew for this event was genuinely fulfilling. I've had previous experiences dealing with younger kids and I've always loved being a part of something that helps motivate them. This activity felt like opening a door for them to peek into the exciting world of higher education, making it seem less daunting. As facilitators, we were all about breaking down those complex walls that often surround college life, giving these students a chance to feel comfortable and confident as they contemplated their next big step in their academic journey.
The Selangkah ke IPTA & TVET program explicitly aligns with the targeted graduate attributes of thinking skills, communication skills as well as, leadership and team working skills. The activities were designed to stimulate critical thinking and communication skills, particularly in group interactions and sharing sessions. The focus on teamwork not only developed leadership skills but also underscored the importance of effective collaboration in achieving common goals, further enriching the targeted graduate attributes.
In conjunction with the Hindu Student Association (PMHUTM) and the State Self-Employment Association Johor, the program extended invitations to students from 12 schools in Johor. Its primary aim was to provide an early introduction to IPTA & TVET for students on the brink of the Certificate of Education Examination (SPM) and grant them a sneak peek into university life. Additionally, the program sought to cultivate leadership qualities and motivation among the students. Planned activities included sharing sessions and success stories featuring industry professionals for the benefit of the participating students.
SELF-REFLECTION :
In this program, I was entrusted with the role of a facilitator. Each facilitator had the responsibility of ensuring that the students were given assistance when required, prioritising their safety as well as serving as a constant companion. I not only took on the role of facilitating but also became a member of the committee responsible for providing food and beverages for all participants.
The Selangkah Ke IPTA & TVET program presented an opportunity for me to enhance my teamwork skills, and my participation was highly anticipated. Strong leadership qualities were essential for our team to achieve this success, fostering unity among team members. Through my engagement in this program, I also honed my communication skills while working with group members.
Managing a considerable number of students, including some who were less active posed a significant challenge during my involvement in this activity. However, I firmly believed that every issue had a viable solution, prompting me to maintain open lines of communication with everyone.
