Global Issues: Unemployment
Before I start my writing, here’s a quote I once passed by to read on the Internet from Steve Jobs; “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking, and don’t settle. [1]”
As time passed by, there are some issues that most of countries are dealing with. Some global issues that often being said are climate change, pollution, unemployment, lack of education, government corruption and more. Here in my article, I will go through one of the issues which is unemployment.
As in everyone’s dream; to have a stable life including good career, family, house, car, enough saving money and more. In aspect of having a good career consists of having a good employer, good and understanding workmates, pleasant work environment and last but not least, good pay. But not everyone is going through the smooth way to have a good career in one’s life. Some may have working in various areas or with various employers. What have become an issue in most of the countries is the percentage of unemployment is getting higher by years.
Based on the recent study by the World’s Economic Forum, 40% of the world’s unemployed are youth [2]. These youth are probably fresh graduates or have graduated for years. The graduates that have graduated for months or years are high in probability still struggling to get employed, too choosy to work with good companies or too demanding with the workplace’s environment regarding the employers, staffs or place.
The amount of youth that are unemployed increasing. Youths unemployment are living off government unemployment benefits, living with their parents, not spending any money as a consumer, and delaying starting families of their own.
This problem of unemployment has become serious as it will affects the family’s income, the country’s economy and even the workplace’s remaining employees. For instance, when there are workers who leaving the company thus, it will increase the amount of work the remaining employees has.
In this context, one are classified as unemployed if they do not have a job, have actively searching for a job in weeks or months and are currently available for work. I believe there are suggestions on how to reduce the amount of unemployment that is rising up in most of countries now. But in my article today, I’m going to go through this unemployment issue in Malaysia.
If a way on advising or listening to people’s experiences regarding having a job, youth can go for a modern way in handling this issue well. This modern way is to guide the way and training the youth so that they will be lead to gainful employment concerning completion. In return, the youth are more encouraged to gain employable skills through the training.
Next, the unemployed themselves need to be well-informed about steering the country’s economy and this most-talked unemployment issue. The aspects that well known to be emphasized are the current number of unemployment, the period of time they have been unemployed, the soft skills levels, the trend in unemployment and so on.
"If you look at other countries, they can do it and we should also be able to implement it better in terms of creating more quality jobs for young people," said by the Youth and Sports Minister of Malaysia, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman [3]. Significantly, there are actions that already been taken and needed to be taken.
From my point of view, precisely the person in charge from the government needs to organize more fair or exhibition that promoting about work or job opportunities. From the program organized, the graduates, youth unemployed, senior unemployed will be able to attend and gain as much the awareness and knowledge about any work opportunities or the solution to their unemployment issue.
