SECP1513 Technology and Information Systems

   In general, this subject is just the overview of all knowledge a computer scientist should know. It introduces me to information system and information technology used in both daily life and in my future career which include hardware, software, network, internet, system applications and more.

   For me, this subject is quite hard compare to other subjects because it requires a lot of report writing and writing is not really my strength. I am more of a hands on and mathematics kind of person so I really struggle with this subject because it mostly involves a bunch of facts that needs to be read and understand. Nevertheless, this subject is very interesting and fun because there was one time I was taught to assemble a PC and I got to visit Petronas Data Centre, Big Data Week and UTM CICT Gallerium as part of the industrial visit program under this subject. I was exposed to IT companies and the real work experiences of working in IT. I was also exposed to design thinking when we were given an assignment about it. It is a new and very valuable knowledge to me. Even though I went through a lot of hardships completing the assignments and reports for this subject, I am proud of myself for doing the best that I can to thrive. If I can turn back time, I wish I spent more time perfecting the assignments and reports because I felt that the works that I handed in is not the best quality. Our lecturer, Dr Aryati made this subject easier to learn and she constantly exposes me and my classmates about the current Big Data industry. Dr. Aryati is a the teacher that brought us Kuala Lumpur to visit Petronas Data Centre and Big Data Week.

   The subject enhances my team working skills, presentation skills, design thinking skills, communication skills and most importantly my report writing skills.  I am an introverted person so I was more comfortable doing things by myself but this subject changed me for the better, now I can work in a team and adapt to other people instead of just focusing on myself. I can talk in front of a crowd without breaking down and stuttering and finally I can talk to other people confidently.

   The skills that I gained are useful for my future career as a data engineering because it requires a lot of team working and communication. With these skills I might appeal more to my future employer. I plan to learn more deeply about each branches in this subject in the future to broaden my knowledge. By doing that, I hope that I can be an IT professional and increase my potential in the industry.
