Chapter 9(Balance on Reactive Process)

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone..:)

Its not late to wish happy holiday I think..hehe.

Well, test 1 and test 2 PCP I had already go through.. Now its time for you to wake up Farid, the final is not easy, remeber that!

Back to the main topic, I will now share about what I have learned in the topic 9 Principal Chemical Process 2.

First, the topic is just have the same main subtopic like the previous one.Especially in the calculation..I am interest with the subtopic heat of reaction and Hess's law. Heat of reaction are related to the heat of formation and heat of combustion. For Hess law one should know how to manipulate with the chemical equation.

To calculate the energy balance, two methods can be use which are heat of reaction and heat of formation. Once again, table B1, table B2 ise useful in this topic. For heat of reaction, we still using the extent of reaction in Mass Balance,

I think thats all for this topic that I can tell for this time being..  Last but not least, I would like to give a token of appreciation to Associate Professor Dr Azeman Mustafa for his teaching and not forgotten to all my classes friends. :)

Principle of Chemical Processes II

Assalamualaikum and welcome everyone...Cool

here the journey begins...hehe

well, I have through PCP 1 in the last semester,,now its going to be the second one..

First of all I'm so grateful that Assc Prof Dr Azeman Mustafa still teaching us.. he knows us better as he taught us last semester..Smile

We start our first class on 11th Sept,,as Dr said we will learn more about energy balance in PCP 2.We still using the same book Elementary Principle of Chemical Processes,,wooaa, this book isso thick i thought huhu..but this book assists me a lot..

From the book we continue from the Chapter 8, Balance On Non Reactive Process..hmm,the sounds of the chapter seems interesting, but it difficult to be understand well for me..

In this chapter, we learn about the important of reference state and hypothetical path. From my understanding, one must know about the changes in pressure at constant temperature and reverse in order to construct the path. Recall back the equation below,

Closed systemQ-W = ^U + ^KE + ^PE

Open system Q-W = ^H + ^KE + ^PE*note ^=delta Undecided

We also learn how to use the reference table from the book. From table B1, B2,B4, B7 until B8...hohoho..so many table to refer. Sensible heat and heat capacities is the most important to be understand in this chapter. One must know how to integrate Cp(heat capacity at constant pressure)..

To estimate heat capacities, we can use Kopp's rule. Inlet & Outlet  Table shuld be draw to assist you in calculation in energy balance. I also learn abaout a useful approximation for estimating ^Hv which is Watson's Correlation. Innocent

The worst part I think is Psychometric Chart hohoho... It takes time to understand this part better. It is important to know that the chart is only for water and dry air.Now I know how to find dry-bulb temperatue, absolute humidity, relative humidty, dew point, humid volume, wet-bulb temperature, specific enthaphy and enthalphy deviation,,

Last but not least adiabatic humidfication.I'm still getting into it, but one thing that I know that is humidfication add moisture to the air which increase the absolute humidity while dehumidification is remove moisture...

I think thats all for this chapter, the chapter looks easy but its hard actually to be understand.,Credits to Prof Dr Azeman who teach us well, even sometimes Im late attend the class, not doing assignment on time so that we can discuss in classother than doing the quiz huhuhu sory...Frown

Im hoping that I will doing it better next chapter, hoping the same thing to my groupmate assigment Syahmi Fadilah and Hisyamudin Hasran InshaAllah Smile

p/s:do prays for others an others wiil pray for you..ameen

principle of chemical process 1

In my second semester, I had learned one of my elementary chemical engineering subject which is "Principle Chemical Processes 1". In my opinion this subject is an interesting subject and the lecturer who in charge is  Assoc. Prof. Dr Azeman Mustafa and he is a good and best lecturer.

Basically, this subject is about introduces students to the chemical engineering profession and the fundamental operations of chemical process equipment. It provides students with the basic principles of chemical engineering material balances as well as calculation techniques to solve material balance problems for chemical process systems and equipment. Last but not least,it provides students with the basic principles of the First Law of thermodynamics and its applications.

During my first class, I'm getting late so I have been chosen to be in section 4. Well it is fine as the student is all the boys. Initially, I have been refreshed back to the last semester chapter which is Introduction to Engineering. Then I proceed to the next chapter which is Chapter 3 Material Balance. In this chapter I had learned about how to set independence balance equation, flow diagram, mass balance calculation and apply 10 step strategy to solve problem without chemical reaction.Actually in the beginning I don't really understand the concept, but with assist of the tutorial and doing the quizzes I can get into it. Alhamdulillah, my test 1 consist this chapter and I able to do it.

Next, I learned about Material Balances on Reactive Process. I learned about chemical reaction equation, identifying limiting and excess reactant, selectivity and yield.Mostly, this chapter is related to chapter 3.we still using the material balances calculation but with chemical reaction. Now I know how to defined the wet basis, dry basis, theoretical air and excess air.Later then I learned about strategy to solve problem involving combustion reaction. During this I am too busy with others activity,I not really focused, lack of doing the tutorial and assignment my result for test 2 is doomed.Well, sometimes we must accept our weakness and i accept that.

In chapter 5 I learned about Single Phase System and I had been exposed to the gas law concept, and I get to know about Ideal Gas, Ideal Gas Mixture,Non Ideal Gas and vapour pressure. I am interested in this chapter, and I think it is more easy to understand as it involving formula. I also learned about Antoinne equation.Later I learned about Multiphase system and I had been introduced to the Raoults law and  dew point. This seems to be interesting and I able to do my test 3.

Last chapter but not least is Energy Balance For Closed And Open System,hehe..im still getting to understand it..With help of the software i think it could help me to understand it better..

I think this subject fulfill the learning outcomes, and i would like to give a token of appreciation to the lecture prof Azeman because of his helpful notes and teaching method. Not forgotten my groupmate Syahmi Fadilah and Hisyamuddin Hasran because of their cooperation in getting better to understand the concept and in doing the assignment..
