After done test 1, we continue for second chapter which is about energy balance for reactive process. In this chapter, I have learnt about heat of reaction, how and when to use it and also about Hess’s Law. Besides that, I also learnt about heat of formation and heat of combustion as well as how to calculate it. We also had learnt about energy balance techniques for reactive process and a few tips that we need to be consider.

For the test 2, it is all about what we learnt in chapter 2 and I think this time I did well even I still did a few mistakes during the test. However, I’ve got better result than test 1 and Alhamdulillah it is from my own efforts. By the way, thanks also to my lecturer because always teach me and urge me to study hard for the test and final. 

Then, we learnt chapter 3 which is about second law of thermodynamics which is covered about the statement of the law of thermodynamics, heat engine, heat pump, refrigerator, carnot cycle, what is entropy, entropy generation and as well as efficiency. For the information, Carnot cycle is the best process rather than irreversible process.

After done with that chapter, we move on to chapter 4 which is about power and refrigeration systems which is also related to carnot cycle. This topic includes power systems, the Rankine cycle, effect of pressure and temperature on the Rankine cycle, Refrigeration cycles. However, our test 3 just covered about what we had learnt in chapter 3 but it still a lot of thing we need to know.

On 18 December 2012, before test I think I can do it because I’m understand I guess but during the test I kept asking myself “What is this??Am I able to answer this?”. However I’m still answer it but I’m not too sure either my answers are correct or not. After the test, one of my friends said, “It’s easy for you right?I can see your paper full of answers”. But what I can said,”Your eyes must be mistaken. It’s also hard for me okay. Don’t judge me from what you see”. Then what I can be said is this test is hard for me and my friends. What I can do is just waiting for the result.

Firstly, we have learnt about Chapter 1-Balances on Non-reactive Process. We have done a lot of revision about open and close system as well as energy balance equation which we had learnt about that in PCP I. Besides that, we also have done revision about steam table, how to use it and etc. The effect of temperature and pressure on enthalpy and internal energy value also have been teach by Dr.Aznizam which is temperature will significantly influence the value of enthalpy and internal energy.  Then, I had learnt about reference state, when to use it and also how to use it. After doing a lot of exercises then I knew how to use it even I’m still confused. By doing many quizzes, I acknowledge that the reference state is really important in energy balance in order to do calculation.

I also have learnt about heat capacities estimation by hard way and also easy way which is just by looking at Table B8. Both ways have been told to me however I’m still get confused sometimes. In addition, I also had learnt about how to draw hypothetical process path and this is one of important part since it required us to draw it during test or exam. By method that have been teached by Dr, I was able to draw it properly. For energy balance calculation, there are some procedures that we need to follow :

a)         Basis

b)         Mass/Mole balance

c)          Reference State : Substance(phase, temperature,pressure)

d)         Preparation of inlet-outlet enthalpy table

e)        Determination of Enthalpy,  from Table B5,B6,B7,B8 or using Heat capacity equation given in Table B2.

f)          Calculation of  Enthalpy: Hypothetical Process Path must be sketched for phase changes or multiphase except for water or steam.

g)         Calculation Heat, Q = nH (out) - nH(in), unit kJ/s (kW)-Inlet-Outlet Enthalpy Table must be refered for convenience.

h)        Sometime, from Q (given in question or adiabatic condition), the unknown mass or mole flowrate can aslo be calculated.

i)           Box for final Numerical Answer

I also have learnt about energy balance on single phase which is we must know about mass balance, reference state and inlet-outlet enthalpy table, steam table(Tables B5,B6,B7) and Table B8. Besides that, we also learnt about hot to emphasize heat capacity on Table 2(hard way) and Table B8(easy way). The estimation of Latent Heat  as well as Delta Hv which can be determined by using Trouton's Rule. The estimation of Heat Capacity of Liquid and Solid can be determined by using Kopp's Rule. The heat  capacity of atomic as we know is available in Table 10. After that, we had learnt about energy balances on Phase Change which required for us to construct hypothetical process path in order to calculate enthalpy.

The step of calculations are as follows :

• Basis
• Skecth Unit Process for Mass Balance Calculation
• Reference State : From Stream or Tables given in Ref. Book
• Construct Inlet-outlet enthalpy Table.
• Calculate the value enthapies using Table B1( Latent Heat, Hv; Heat of Fusion, Hm), Table B2 (Heat of Capacities, a+bT+...), Tables B5,B6,B7 and Table B8
• Calculate Q or mass flowrate or Temperature

Before test 1, we do revision on dry bulb temperature (x-axis), absolute humidity (y-axis, moisture content, ha, kg H2O (v)/kg Dry air, relative humidity (hr) and saturation curve (hr=100%), dew point ( using constant pressure line-horizontal and saturation curve), wet bulb temperature (twb), humid volume (kg HA/kg DA), enthalpy (using adiabatic line  or wet temperature line) and  also enthalpy deviation. We also learnt about adiabatic cooling and energy balance procedure by using chart.

After done learnt that, as usual there are always gifts from our beloved lecturer which are a lot of exercises in order for us to understand the topic. On 11 October 2012, first test was done and what I can said it is really worse for me. I cannot answered the questions in the test and I really disappointed with my result but I know that it is my fault because do not pay attention.

Another exciting story begin. On that day, as well as last semester Dr.Aznizam gives a lot of exercises since there was public holiday on next Monday(Malaysia Day). How should I say about this??The exercises for me a little bit difficult because I didn't understand about the calculation, when to use reference state, how to differentiate the questions and etc. But I will try harder for this subject and thanks for Dr because give us a lot of quizzes.

Assalamualaikum... bermulanya perjuangan di awal semester untuk subjek ini setelah sekian lama tak bertemu dengan buku PCP. Pensyarah yang sama iaitu PM Dr Aznizam Abu Bakar, buku yang sama membuatkan saya dan kawan-kawan seronok untuk belajar. Kerisauan seperti dulu kembali terasa, dan pada kelas pertama PCP II ni saya dan kawan-kawan terlambat masuk kelas. Mula-mula buka pintu bilik N02 2-6, agak terkejut sebab semua dah ada dan sedikit cuak sebab teringat pesan dr. Aznizam "Punctuallity is most important for this class". 

Terasa sangat bersalah sebab datang lambat, minta maaf sangat dr..

Setelah melalui sesi pengenalan yang agak panjang,kami memulakan sesi pembelajaran dengan proses Open and Closed System. Melalui permulaan itu, saya serba sedikit dapat ingat kembali pembelajaran subjek PCP dulu. Alhamdulillah masih ingat sikit-sikit. Dan setelah itu, kami sambung dengan Hypthetical Process Path Construction di mana kami perlu melukis jalan bagi sesuatu perubahan fasa seperti darri cecair ke gas, pepejal ke cecair dan sebagainya.

Dan seperti biasa, Dr. Aznizam terkenal dengan latihan yang banyak. Walaupun banyak tetapi saya yakin cara itu amat berkesan untuk mendidik kami semua untuk lebih memahami subjek tersebut. 

Terima kasih banyak-banyak kat dr sebab sudi lagi mengajar kami semua untuk sem ini. Bagi saya, yang lepas biarlah lepas. Yang sekarang perlu berusaha menjadi yang terbaik untuk diri sendiri, keluarga dan masyarakat setempat. Oleh itu, 

Merak Se'Blast merupakan malam anugerah Resak iaitu salah satu program Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail di mana tempat saya menetap sekarang di UTM. Program ni merupakan majlis makan malam di samping menghargai sumbangan insan-insan yang banyak berbakti untuk kolej kami.Majlis ni berlangsung pada 11 April 2012 kalau tak silap dan memberi kami kegembiraan sepanjang majlis berlangsung. Secara keseluruhannya saya menghargai jawatankuasa yang terlibat membantu dalam menjalankan majlis tersebut terutamanya ahli-ahli Jawatankuasa Kolej Mahasiswa yang tidak berhenti mengatur program di kolej. Apa yang diharapkan ialah semoga dapat diperbaikkan lagi di tahun hadapan dan harap lagi baik dan cantik dari tahun ni.

salam ukhwah, salam perpaduan untuk semua. update terbaru nak cerita tentang selepas test 2 PCP, kami digegarkan dengan Test 3 yang akan muncul setelah itu. Tanggal 22 Mei 2012 menyaksikan segalanya tentang ujian PCP dan bagi saya ujian ini agak mencabar. Tajuk yang masuk untuk ujian ini merupakan tajuk-tajuk yang saya agak lemah. Sekitar ujian tu, saya rasa apa saya jawab mungkin banyak yang tak betul. Nak kata susah, tak sangat, senang pun tak de la jugak tapi banyak tak yakin dengan jawapan sendiri, entahlah macam mana jadi keputusannya. Jadi saya masih tidak tahu apa yang bakal terjadi pada keputusan ujian tu nanti. Tetiba rasa sangat takut untuk menerima keputusannya, mungkin Dr akan bagi esok. Sangat runsing tatkala memikirkannya dan sangat berharap Dr simpan je kertas tu esok, tak payah bagi. 

tapi jauh di sudut hati yang mendalam ni, saya sangat berharap dapat yang lagi baik dari sebelum ini. Harap-harap Allah makbulkan..

Pagi tadi kelas Kimia Organik, Madam bagi kertas ujian 2 yang dijalankan pada 21 Mei 2012, sehari sebelum ujian 3 PCP dan keputusannya Alhamdulillah walaupun tak berapa baik macam orang lain tapi rasanya macam dah berbaloi dengan usaha yang masih lagi kurang. Harap-harap dapat perform masa final exam nanti. InsyaAllah kamu boleh buat Wanah!!! Bila dikira-kira markah OC rasanya sangat rendah, rasa malu pun ada dengan kawan-kawan. sangat down mental ni sekarang tapi bila difikirkan balik, segala yang terjadi ada hikmahnya, jangan putus asa!!

it's been a while for me to be here since my last entry. I think it is because I have not enough time to open this and update my entry..anyway today i want to share a moment with all of you here..wish that you will be my good readers for me. thank you. 

what I want to share with you is about my second test on PCP subject. from the last entry I posted, I have mentioned that the test 2 have been a bad dream for everyone and for me too. Every single person I asked about the test, they said, " it's so hard wanah. i can't make it. I feel so sad". what can I reply to them is "relax, InsyaAllah you will get better marks this time." But deeply in my heart on that time I felt the same way too. I'm always think what should I do if I get worse marks? What will be my first expression? What will happen to me??what, what and what?After a long time thinking, I just give my beliefs and the rest to Him, I will accpet what He did and as my mum said, what Allah did and give to us have its own meanings.

After a week of the test, it's time to give what we did on that test. before Dr give the test papers to the students, he announce who get the highest mark. And as usual we know who is that guy. Of course that foreigner student, Emad. And i really salute him in what he did. Then, Dr announced the second highest mark and we all try to guess who is that. We all said a few of our classmates but it's wrong. Then we guessed again and at last Dr said 'Safwanah' and it really shocked me. I was too speechless and my expression was.........(can't described what it is). but when hearing my name, I felt happy and sad. Happy because I did not fail but sad because my mark low than test 1 however i still blessed on what He had give to me. Thanks to Allah and thanks to Dr.Aznizam for teached me this while.

And to my friends,  do not felt so sad on your marks, I'm sure you can get better. Do your best!! I also not sure my marks will still remain or not during next test. From this test, what I get is we must accept everything from what we get and try to improve our marks better and better on next test, quiz or maybe final exam...

just believe on your self and try harder..GAMBATE!!

it's been a while i did not update this....

after mid sem break, 1SKKK akan ada test 2 for Principles of Chemical Process...semua macam takut susah...but our lecturer said it's easy and I can say that you all can get 100% in test 2..

everyone still study hard even the lecturers said like that. that was the spirit that I can learn from my friend. when the time comes to answer the test, before the test I see smiles from them. In the test hall (DK7N24), what I could see is stress, stress, and stress. everyone work hard to answer that question and frankly speaking the same goes to me. when I see the question, i think i can do it but it is not what i think.

but I still answer all the question however I made some silly mistakes and I truly regret that. fter the test, I smiled to my friends but they all looks so down and really felt disappointed. what I saw before the test getting really different after the test. The smile I saw just now are not on their face anymore. What I can do is just give them some advice and we did not talk about the past anymore. then, they accept that and try to smile again.

from the conclusion about test 2 PCP is I think it is more difficult than first test... But hopefully I still get better marks than first test....

first of all, thanks a lot to UTM management because finally i can log in to my eportfolio now..yeay!!!..this week is the second week for me in this semester. everything at this time so far so good..

yesterday update >>

• went for organic chemistry class. Frankly speaking I'm a lttle bit slow to catch up with what the lecturer teach. When I see my friend can understand well, I said to myself I also must be able to be like them too...For the sake of my life, my family and my carrier, be strong and work hard wanah!! =)
• for math class, the teaching method by lecturer in the evening really give me an interesting learning in mathematics. Hope I will able to score this sem
• yesterday was an interesting day and I must take the moral value from what happen yesterday

that's all for my expression and reflection today..Hope I can fo better next time..
