RACHEL LIM JIA CHYI

It has only been 3 months since I have became a part of SCSP (Data Engineering) members of Faculty of Computing at UTM. Now, it is the starting 4th month and I have one more month to go before finishing my first sem in UTM. 

Someone said to me before, "Time flies when you're having fun and good time." Looking backward, I still remember the days before I first came to UTM, I had so much of worry about the character and behavior of my course mates especially my future roommate, thinking of am I able to catch up all my studies and other kinds of worries. But until the day (3rd September of 2018)  that I really need to left my hometown to JB for continuing my studies, I feel like why should I worry so much about the things that I 'cant control so I started looking forward to my future  life in UTM and getting excited to be part of the UTMians and meet with all friends from different states. And it is true for not worrying so much as all the things here get to go smoothly and good after a period of time.

In study, the subjects that are taught in this course (SCSP) are Programming Technique I, Digital Logic, Discrete Structure, Technology and Information Systems and some open-courses like Malaysia Dynamic, Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia and French. All the subjects are too new for me as I have zero knowledge and experience in these courses. Although it is very hard to understand what is being taught by the course lecturers at the beginning when my other course mates seems to be understanding all the lessons in the lecture, but I'm glad that I have my lovely course mates and friends who are willing to help me in my studies. All of them helped me to get through my hardest time and I will always bare in mind and never forget the good deeds that they had done to me. I will always appreciate the friendships between us.

In friends relationship, I prayed to God and thank you Him for giving me a such lovely and kind-hearted roommate who is came from Kedah.  I like my roommate very much as she is also a very responsible, smart and hardworking person as she always helps me in my studies. Somehow we just like twins as we do together such as sleeping at the same time, eating at the same place, doing the same work or even saying the same thing . Besides, I also love my course mates very much as all of them are kind-hearted, hardworking and friendly person. They always share their knowledge with others and helping each other if someone are facing problems. 

I love the lifestyle in university as I can train myself to be independent without being tied to my mother's apron strings. I can get to know more and more people from other states and country during my Uni life. After being 3 months of taking care of my own self, I learned that time management and financial management are very important as I need schedule my time and keep track on the money that i had spent so that I will not waste my time in other things and overspent my money. There are still many things that are waiting for me to discover, experience and learn in this world. In this 4 years, I hope i can discover more, experience more and learn more those things that I only can gained from university life.

Technology and Information System is one of the subjects I love the most because it does not need to attend final examination. Not at all, I love it because it is a very special and interesting course and is a happening subject because it is more focus on Industrial visitation and talk where we can actually explore more to the things which is now happening around us. For example, we can understand more about freelancer and the function of ADAX after we had our visitation and talk on it. All these visitations and talks from different organisations namely MDEC, NALI, CICT(UTM), ADAX and CIMB had inspired me a lot where they give me a wider view on my future career path and make me understand what can I do to make myself succeed in future. However, I have to submit REPORTS after attending all these visitations and talks where I really don’t like it because I lack of writing skills. But, it also helps me a lot to improve my writing skill with the help and support from my friends and lovely lecturer.

TIS also has given me an opportunity to assemble back PC and have a deeper understanding on the connection of the components in the CPU. I also get to know more about the details of how does a computer works and how can data transit from a pace to another place.

I am so grateful that I had enrolled into this course where I can really understand more about computer essential. I also really appreciate that I have a such lovely lecturer who willing to spend her precious time to answer my questions and explain to me the things that I’m not sure about. I also wanna thanks to my friends especially my group members who help me a lot during my assignment and projects.

We feel grateful to have a fruitful acquisition from CIMB. Through this visit, we gained new experiences and knowledges on banking sector, and our perspective towards this sector have changed. After the visit to CIMB, we have more understanding on the working environment in banking sector. Besides, we learnt that besides financial departments, IT departments play an essential role in a banking company, as it is the medium of all banking procedure, include service management, financial and administration, applications and infrastructures. Data management is an important assets of a banking companies and require high-level protection, as it not only stores customers information, it also act as a guideline to help banking company to improve their system and decide the future path.

Besides, this visit also gave us more detailed information of our available carrier in the future. Banking is actually one of the available options we can consider to get into since there are also demands on manpower who have capability to work with big data. However, getting into this sector are not easy as the criteria of qualification is high. This gave us an impact on knowing that what is still lacking among us in order to have higher potential in market.

Therefore, we need to improve ourselves in order to have higher potential and more competitive in the market. We will learn more new things, gain more knowledge and experience outside the lectures, besides work hard to perform well in academic. We will also be active in extracurricular activities to gain new skills apart from academic field. This is important because soft skills will also be considered by employers when taking new employees.
