SECP1513-02 (TECHNOLOGY AND INFORMATION SYSTEM)

Lecturer : Dr Aryati Bakri

A Brief Synopsis of the following Course:

Technology and Information System (TIS) is a course that is purposed for students to be introduced to information systems and technology, as well as its uses in daily life both at home and at work. Various aspects of IS/IT ( Information systems and technology ) encompassing hardware, software, network, communications, internet, multimedia, graphics and systems applications will be introduced. Students will be equipped
with basic skills in handling PC installation and productivity tools via practical work in the labs, which shall comprise a major part of the study.

By the end of the course, students should be able to distinguish basic IS/IT component and applications.

Industrial Talk - 4IR by TM

On the 24th of November 2020, we had a industrial talk from a representative from TM, REDZUAN SHAH BIN YUSSOFF. The talk was moderated by NIK KAMAL IZZUDIN BIN NIK IBRAHIM. Through the talk we learned many things, one of many was The movement of Innovation to assist human life is crucial and through the industrial talk I learned I am going to play a big role in the movement. TM is playing their part providing their services to better the experience of the nation and evolving the nation in the process.

Project management is the key element for the success of a company to recognizes possible risks in order to provide effective solutions. This study aims to understand the importance and trending of IT (Information Technology) project management by discussing the popularly used method such as Prince 2, project processes and project tailoring that organizations have to implement to align projects with business strategy, oversee the planning and execution of a project in order to ensure the project's goals and milestones is aligned. Furthermore, Commerce Dot Com Sdn Bhd also shared the 7 aspects of project management that are still developing. Generally, this industrial talk led to a better insight for student’s future projects management for their future IT career.

Step by step Basic PC Assembly

This assignment due on the first of December 2020, was purposed to fulfill one of the course objectives which is to give students a basic knowledge of the hardware in a system unit.

Since Covid-19 struck there is no way we can do this practically, therefore I used this video and my knowledge on PC building to complete this assignment.

Youtube Video used as reference to complete the assignment :

Alumni Sharing Session

Alumni Sharing Session is themed Inspiring Work experience & Covid19 Pandemic Challenge, the talk is about three Data Engineering fresh graduates sharing their working experience during this pandemic and how they manage to get hired by their company. They also mention beneficial things to be done in university. The purpose of this talk is to help students to understand more about their future and prepare students to face their university life.

Literature Review on Cloud Computing

This literature review is purposed to give exposure towards Cloud computing services. Cloud computing services are currently available to meet most of the information technology needs. It changes how businesses and public institutions use information technology mostly in the midst of this pandemic.

With the help of Microsoft Azure fundamentals and google cloud services we finished this project successfully.

Design Thinking : Report

In this design thinking assignment for Technology and Information System (SECP1513) course, our tasks are writing a report and producing two videos on Video Design Thought and Video Chapter Presentation. The objectives are to educate us on how to develop collaboration, communication, analytical, and innovation skills. The interview with one of the CICT staff has inspired us to come up with solutions to the problems they face. Based on the Design Thinking phase, which includes the process of redefining problems and finding potential solutions, it emphasizes on evolution, constructive exchange of ideas and the building of innovation.

There are five phases in Design Thinking processes, which are Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Testing. It allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the issues that we face in terms of privacy and security, and encourages us to be more creative and innovative in seeking a solution to this problem. The development of our prototype will give a clearer image of its purpose, we used the online platform application called Assemblr to present our prototype.

EMPATHIZE

  • Interview with Mr Mohd Zahari bin Zainal Abidin, who previously worked as an Information Technology Officer at UTM Digital, currently in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) as a technical staff.

DEFINE

  • We arranged a series of meetings through Zoom and together discussed the current issues affecting the UTM cyber security team.

IDEATE

  • Upon discovering and developing the feature and how the prototype will function, we sketched a number of prototypes’ design before listing the most ideal version.
  • The chosen prototype focuses more on optimizing the use of biometrics, the Media Access Control (MAC) address.

PROTOTYPE

  • To build the prototype effectively, we need to thoroughly understand the features of our invention and discuss every aspect of the device.
  • We used the service provided by assemblrworld.com for our prototype simulation and fluidui.com to simulate the interface

TEST

  • Due to some constraint to physically test our prototype, we are only creating a visual simulation of how it looks and functions.
  • We received feedback and suggestions after the first testing on improving the design of our prototype then we implemented the suggestions from users.

REFLECTION for design thinking

My end goal is to become a machine learning data engineer. After this design thinking project, one of the things I learned is how to conduct an interview, brainstorm ideas, record and mostly the importance of teamwork. It’s true that a complex task can be easy if we have a good communicating team.

After this design thinking project, my goal is to become more efficient and be more responsive. It also taught me to communicate better as a team member.

In order to develop my potential in the industry, I planned to improve my soft skills which include communication skills, stress management, time management, decision making, and conflict solving skills and leadership by participating in activities held in UTM. In a society, we need to have soft skills to communicate with others so that we can solve a problem effectively and fast. Finally, I also plan to learn more programming languages such as Basic, C#, JAVA etc. I will now work hard and try my best to contribute to human society.

Reflection

Technology and information system (TIS) is a course where I learned about the system, technology as well as an information system and how these operate and are maintained. Since my ambition is to become a machine learning engineer, this knowledge is one step at the right direction towards my dreams.

Thanks, is not enough to express my gratitude to Dr Aryati Bakri. Doctor was always patient and willing to help me and my classmates. Many assignments were difficult to complete, things would have been more complicated without the help of Dr Aryati. Many of us will agree that design thinking was the hardest assignment we faced during our TIS course. Dr Aryati guided us and gave us motivation by showing us the importance of teamwork when completing this assignment.

It is no fantasy that, technology has shaped todays' world. Companies like Tesla, Microsoft, Google, SpaceX are all just a few examples of the technological leap of mankind. I will put the knowledge I learnt from this subject to good use. Knowledge from this course is no doubt an advantage to me as a future machine learning engineer.

Thanks to Dr Aryati Bakri, and all my groupmates from group 4.
