Summary of Chapter 2 (Energy Balances for Reactive Process) PCP II

Alhamdulillah chapter 1 of PCP II is already finish. Now we continue to the second chapter in PCP II which is Energy Balance for Reactive Process. In this second chapter, there are few subtopics that includes Heats of Reaction, Hess’s Law, Heats of Formation, Heat of Combustion, and Energy Balances on Reactive Processes. basically, in this chapter we have learned how to calculate heat of reaction using few ways. One of the way is calculate the heat of Reaction from heat of formation and another way is calculate the heat of Reaction from heat of combustions. Besides that, we also have learned how to perform general energy balance including mass balance to the process that involving reactions to find the standard heat of Reaction, Q. This process is perform using two method which is using heat of formation method and the second method is using heat of reaction method. i think that is all that i can summarise from this chapter. Can't wait to continue the next chapter that is the second law of Thermodynamics. thank you. :)

Summary of Chapter 1 (Balances on Non-reactive Process) PCP II

Bismillahirahmanirrahim. Alhamdulillah, new semester just started and my journey with the subject principle chemical process continue as I'm taking principle of chemical process II (PCP II) instead of PCP I in the last semester. Once again, praised to Allah because Dr. Azeman is still teaching me for this subject because I love the way Dr. Azeman teach this subject besides he is like my father because he always give us useful advice like my father did.

Basically, last semester we learned about mass balance but for the PCP II, we learned more about energy balance and a little bit of thermodynamics. The first chapter for PCP II is chapter 8 that continued from PCP 1 which is chapter 7. in chapter 8,  there are few subtopics including State properties,Hypothetical Path, Procedures for energy balance,Single Phase,Heat Capacities, Psychrometric Charts, and lastly Adiabatic Humidification that contribute to the whole idea of this chapter. in this chapter i've been introduced  to some energy balance law for example kopp's rule and watson correlation. Besides that, throughout the chapter, mostly the table at the behind of our reference book i've been understand how to use it. Other than that, i've been introduced to  psychrometric chart. This  psychrometric chart consist of dew point temperature, humid volume, saturation heat, dry bulb and wet bulb temperature and many more. At first, this chart is hard to understand but after Dr. azeman guide us how to use the chart, its become easy and very enjoyable. I think that is all for this chapter. Thank you :)

REFLECTION ON PRINCIPLE OF CHEMICAL PROCESS

Bismillahirahmanirrahim. My name is Muhammad Syahmi Bin Ahmad Fadilah and I am taking the principle of chemical process course, SKKK 1113 in this second semester as a first year student.  This course is being taught by one of the best, experienced and talented  lecturer in UTM that is,  Assoc. Prof. Dr Azeman Mustafa. This course is divided into two section which is section 03 and 04. I have been placed in section 04 with few other classmates. Basically, this subject is about introducing students to the chemical engineering profession and the fundamental operations of chemical process equipment. It provides students with the basic principles of chemical engineering material balances as well as calculation techniques to solve material balance problems for chemical process systems and equipment. Last but not least,it provides students with the basic principles of the First Law of thermodynamics and its applications.

Alhamdulillah, it is already towards the end of second semester and there is a lot of things that i have learned in this course. First of all, I would like to thanks Dr. Azeman for teaching and helping me a lot in this course and the most important for motivate me a lot to score in this course throughout the semester. This is because,  in the beginning of this sem, I was told there is a subject would cause me headache and nightmares. Actually it got within me for a little bit till I started to take classes in this course. After while, I started to release all the illusions from my self, after i get an inspirational and motivated words and some advice from Dr, Azeman, alhamdulillah :)

okay, now, to begin with, this course roughly can be divided into three parts. First topic  of part one is Introduction to engineering calculations, second is process and process variables, the third is fundamental of material balance(3.1 - 3.2). these three topic telll us about conversion unit, force and weight, mass and volume, flow rate, chemical composition, pressure and temperature. All these are basic in the chemical engineering course. Besides, these three topic we had learnt in semester one of  our first year in Introduction to Engineering subject. Thus, in this semester we just proceed to the second part of this course. The second part of this course consist of 4 topic. the first topic is Fundamentals of material balance(3.3 - 36). In this topic, we were taught about process classification, balance, material balance calculation, balance on multiple unit proces, reycle and bypass, chemical reaction stoichemistry, balance on reactive process and combustion. The second topic is Material Balance on Reactive Process while the second topic is Single Phase Systems and the last topic in the second part of this course is Multi Phase System. lastly, the third part of this course consist of one topic, that is Energy Balances.

Finally, everyday I spent study in this subject is getting me more and more interested and helpful for me in academic learning and in my daily life. By using all the things I've ever learnt till from it and practicing it will get me more experience in major life and academic adventure and i can conclude that this course has achieved all its objectives besides , for me, this course is very interesting and enjoyable to learn. I hope i manage to score in the final exam. Thanks you once again Dr.Azeman for your blessing of teaching us. If there is anythings that my classmates and I had doing wrong, i hope you can forgive us. Hope i can learn more from you in the next semester. :)
