TRAINING LOCATION: DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT MUAR, No. 19-4 TINGKAT 1 WISMA TIAM LOCK, JALAN SUNGAI ABONG, 84000, MUAR, JOHOR, 84000

Department of Environment Muar has nine officers in charge for controlling , monitoring, assisting and enforcing the three region environment which is at Muar, Tangkak and Segamat. The head of our department is a Mechanical Engineer, IR Mohd Nazir bin Mansor whom has a wide range of experience in Engineering production.

During the internship, there is a lot of activity and work that we have done which is both beneficial and stress releasing.

First and foremost, we have Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with all the department available at Tiam Lock. We are needed to open our booth to provide water for the Open House.Most of the respective government official attend this Open House Celebration which indirectly increase the social relationship between each other.

Next, we are also involve in several emergency cases which is landfill severe burning case at Bakri. DOE staff need to find the source of burning pollution and provide solution and preventive measure to the other affiliated department such as APM, Police, Fireman and others. We are also needed to provide alternative in regards to this cases for future used in engineering ways. Therefore, it use our knowledge that we have learn in class by finding the cause of the burning and providing ideas in preventing the same future cases.

Besides that, we also have a semiannual visit in monitoring several factories and companies in all three region. The task given is by taking the pH value, BOD value, observation on the color of air emission, observation on the plant used and their respective data taken daily. The removal and addition of new parts of component in the plant was also included in monitoring. Then, DOE also need to ensure all the OSHE scope of work are working properly and ensure the availability of competent person for each air, effluent, and other parts.

Furthermore, as we have IR Mohd Nazir as our head of department, he have given us some engineering problem, which is by finding the air to fuel ratio for Palm Oil Production. Then, we are also needed to understand and observe all the process in Palm oil mill and rubber mill production and their respective effluent treatment.

Last but no least, we are also been exposed to more social relation between the government organization in the cleaner production activity that was being held at Persatuan Peladang Negeri Johor, Kluang. They have introduce their new venture in making the blood and washing waste from the poultry production to a renewable energy generator by using the anaerobic digestor as their base.

In conclusion, during the internship period at Department Of Environment Muar, there are many improvement in our professional attitude and the ability to practise the knowledge we gain as an engineer student in this field of work. We are not just enforcing, but, we also assist in providing the solution to several issues regarding environment . We are also actively involved in the EIA meeting for some several large companies such as Johor Corp in their new construction plan at Muar. Furthermore, with the given mini project and classes held by IR Mohd Nazir, the knowledge that we gain in University studies is further extended and was able to be implemented in reality.
