Mini Report
Bengkel Asas Seni Tari (BAKAT) is a dance workshop organised by Citra Daksina to introduce the notion of culture, art, and the history of Malay traditional dance among club members and UTM students. Aside from teaching dance skills, this workshop emphasizes discipline and fundamentals of dance. Futhermore, students are taught every traditional Malay dancing style, including Zapin, Inang and Joget.
This program emphasizes a few graduate attribute skills since students must work in groups and communicate with one another. One of the skills involved was the ability for students to work in groups which enhanced their leadership and teamworking skills. Moreover, adaptability and thinking skills are emphasised since students must behave and think in accordance with the situation and work at hand.
BAKAT was conducted for two days from the 4th until the 5th of November 2022. Students are exposed to a dancing introduction, followed by the exposure to costumes and stage makeup in the next segment of day one. Day two was filled with interactive activities where participants worked in groups and play games. Lastly, to end the workshop, the theory of how the body moves when dancing was taught by our very own club adviser, Pn. Shaleen.
Self Reflection
This activity has a big impact on the development of my graduate attributes, especially in communication, thinking, and teamworking skills. Although this activity seems very simple and fun, it brings many benefits to me as a student. By joining this activity, I have learned new things and able to make new friends. I admit that I enjoyed working in a team and facilitated the workshop with my committee members.
This workshop has its own strengths. It managed to attract the attention of many students, especially the first year’s to continue their passion in the field of dance. This activity relieved the stress and fatigue from academic commitment. We, as the high committee, are very excited and appreciated those who attended the workshop.
However, few challenges were faced in the process of conducing the workshop, which was lack of time. We only have two days to sum up everything about traditional dance. We don't have enough time to teach traditional dance moves because there are too many to learn. We only had time to teach the basics of making a performance. As a result, we intend to hold dance classes every two weeks throughout the month so that participants can learn various types of traditional dances and have the opportunity to perform at events to which our club is invited.
