Huawei Connected Campus 2020
On 2nd March 2020, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was held an event known
as Huawei Connected Campus at Dewan Sultan Iskandar, UTM JB and this event hosted by
Huawei. Huawei is a Chinese multinational technology company which is one of the leading
global provider of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart
devices. UTM is the first public university that host this event in this year. There was so
many activities conducted such as talk by Huawei leaders, campus recruitment, and showcase
of Huawei products. This event had gathered more than 3000 students from various courses
and faculty in UTM. This community event that is organised by academia and industry was a
good platform for UTM to learn and experience the future and to foster partnership for the
betterment of Malaysia’s higher education, industry, society and whole nation, Prof. Datuk Ir.
Dr. Wahid Omar the Vice-Chancellor of UTM who is launched this event on that day. The
event was also attended by Mr. Lim Chee Siong (Director of Huawei Cloud & AI Southern
Pacific Region), Ms. Emily Peh (Senior Talent Development Manager Southern Pacific
Region), Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohammed Rafiq Dato’ Abdul Kadir (Dean of UTM Faculty of
Engineering), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Othman Ibrahim (Director of UTM Career Center). The
reason why Huawei held this kind of event for all universities in Malaysia is to engage with
thestudents and to recruit a potential talent as well as giving exposure to students to its
technology and future development.
During this programme , Im in second year student of Multimedia and Graphic
software student and I had join this programme with my course mate and other students from
different courses. Based on my course this event is very recommended to join because our
course are very related to this event objective as we are the students of computer science that
studies about the technology and something that relate to it. As the participant, all of
participant will get a curricular merit. From this event,experience and knowledge is the main
reason for some student that joined this event because this is very infrequent event that has
been organized. The tentative for this event is divide into two session that .available for us.
First is the showcase, the showcase start around 9 am in the morning where student were has
a choice to join the showcase at anytime because the showcase is available from the
beginning until the end of the event. In the showcase all of us were shown on what Huawei
company has been achieved until this days, the technologies that Huawei used, new
technologies that has been discovered or being developed, the beneficence of Huawei
products and so on. Second is career talk session, it was start at 2 pm in the afternoon. The
talk session was conducted by Huawei`s leaders which is Mr. Lim Chee Siong and Ms. Emily
Peh, both are a high ranking personnel in Huawei Southern Pacific Region. After that is the
campus recruitment session where Huawei team observed and evaluate the students that
participate through their ability to solve problems and talent in technology. The purpose of
this recruitment is to give a chance to students to join Huawei team in the future.
Throughout the event that was organised by Huawei,I realized that my knowledge in
this it field is not sufficient yet to make me grow and get a better job the future because in
this field it has a lot of things that we must explore by joining this kind of event so much as
we can. In the career talk, it seem that there are many things and content that I never heard
before and for me it is a new knowledge that we must take seriously to become a good fresh
graduate. Everything that was explained during this career talk was very important and
crucial things that give a benefit for my future as well as my knowledge in
technology.Moreover, we should ensure to our self that we are on the right path to our
success because once you are not in the right path, we might be deviated far from our
mission. Based on my opinion, the career talk gave students a lot of encouragement and
motivation to strive forward to achieve their career and had given me a glimpse insight on
what the future holds and what will it be for us, the students which majoring in computer
science and technology.In the showcase, there was so much exhibition form for their
technology, products and solution that were displayed by Huawei representative
teams.During the showcase, I was so amazed by the greetings of the student.
My experience of the technology and future career during that event was very
different to the experience during my education time. For example, my backround is basically
in computer science that does not cover the overall aspects of the real world technology but
only a general things based on a syllabus that which has been set by the university. Unlike
these event by Huawei, my understanding and knowledge of technology as well as career was
seen as separate to the environment during my education. The event give me a better
understanding in choosing the right career path and figure out what should I do to success in
my career. The career talk in the event was give me an exposure about the internship talk that
was given to us back then during our diploma studies was a little bit the same with the career
talk as I heard, the final year diploma students insight on how will the internship be like as it
was out first experience of internship. This is because most of us had never experienced
internship before in our life. Back to the career talk, it does not covers only the surface of our
career life such as internship, but it goes way deeper into our future career so that we can
make the right choice and be ready to start our career.
Based on the event, each of the students that I observed remained engaged and
motivated throughout the entire event. This can give result that everything that has been
delivered through this event can be say as effective and impactious to everyone who joined it.
In addition, Huawei Connected Campus also talk about the graduate success attributes that
are essential for every students to be a successful students or graduate in the future. Some of
the attributes can be classified as information gathering skills, self-awareness and adaptability
skills. Information gathering skills is a crucial skill that very students must have in order to
moving forward to the another level. This skill is important for students because when we are
in a lecture, some of the lecturer or presenter will talk or lecture without highlighting the
main information. So, a high information gathering skill can make us gather the main
information easily and prevent ourselves from gain a less important information. Other than
that, self-awareness is the ability to see yourself clearly and objectively through reflection
and introspection. We should have a high self-awareness on current affairs especially on
current modern technologies. This is because we need to adapt our self to our current
technologies as we are living on the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, where we are introduced
with, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT (Internet of Things), and so on. If we do not
catch up with the current technologies development, we might be left behind and our chances
to be employed is lower that the others people
When I look back the experience of learning through my education and my own
experience joining Huawei Connected Campus, I can see how effective that event was as
insights and knowledge obtained through that event was far-reaching to my career path and
education. I believe that, choosing the right career path can leads us to improve our self
during our career and will reduces some of the challenges and difficulties in our career life.
As part of my future career planning, the career talk during that event really gives a big
impact for myself and to every student that has been joined as it gives us a little bit of a vision
on planning our future career. After that, the showcase gave me an awareness to the new
technologies that is being developed and ability to catch up in the world of expanding and
advance technologies. I learnt that by gaining and learning new technologies could give me
ideas to come out with new solution that are out of my syllabus for my assignment and
projects that need to be done in my studies. In conclusion, the outcome from this Huawei
Connected Campus is important to me as a student of computer science as given theory in
planning my future career as well as gaining extra knowledge in the aspects of technology. I
hope that UTM will organize more event with the bigger company after this because this kind
of event will helps me to planning my career path clearly.

UTM GAMES 2019
On 15-22 November 2019, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was organizing a
sport event that known and called as UTM games. In this UTM games there’s a lot of games
that has been conducted and the venue for each games its depends on the games itself. For
example, volley ball, badminton and takraw was played at the Sport Hall. Street soccer,
Frisbee, and Futsal at Stadium Azman Hashim and so on. This UTM games started with the
fun run in the early morning and this run made all of the student from all colleges to gather
together that makes this programme become more happening with the mascot appearance.
UTM was organizing this event almost every year to maintain the tradition of the sport and to
create the engagement with all of the senior and junior students by contributing into this
annual event. There were many of activities that have been conducted including games, the
procession based on college with mascot, silat and so on.This UTM games also has a purpose
that is to find and select the talented player and bring them to another level of sport such as
“SukIpt” and “Masum”.
The event was launched and closed by UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof.Dr.
Durrishah Bte Idrus at the Stadium Azman Hashim by having a representative for each
college in marching.The organizer also take a marks in marching from each college that will
have an award for the best in marching .The games session started on the Friday morning
around 8.30 AM with the volley ball and takraw games and its follow for the others games
for the next day such as petanque. This event was so happening because of the cheers team `s
appearance and many students take a part for this annual sport event. All of them looks very
energize to play and win the games. Next, for my part I have received a task 1 month from
the organizer before the event was held. For example I have got a task to design a banner,
flyers, bunting, brochure, and the countdown picture for every days until the event be held to
create the awareness for this event to the others student . During the event days, I also got a
task to make an Instagram story, instagram live and to post the photos of the event in the
Instagram platform. This updating news will help the others student that has come or not
come yet to the sports venue to receive the new update for every moment of this games and
event.
This UTM games event make me feel very excited because this is the first time they
organized since I started study in this UTM Skudai and this event actually being held in the
early of the semester because this time student not have so much work yet and they will feel
free to join.I feel more excited when my application to be the part of multimedia crew is
approved by looking to the criteria needed and experience that I have before this. I can see
from this grand event that it is very happening because lots of students from different college
was taking part in every single games include the foreigner student. So, actually from the
normal day with a class, meeting, discussion and so on, we can see there`s infrequent of
student that involve their self to spent their leisure time to play for the certain games that’s
they like in the evening or weekend. From this, we can conclude that actually lots of student
has interest and they are talented in some sports but maybe they are lack of time due to the so
much homework , assignment, project that has blocking their time to play and polish their
skills. Other than that, this UTM games is a great event for the student to show and highlight
their talent to the organizer and from this event they will know their limit that actually they
can move to another level in sport. For example, there’s several of successful Malaysian
athlete was born and well trained that comes from UTM Skudai, and this athlete is selected
from the UTM games itself such as Nur Azilah, Pow Mei Foong, Nur Fariha Abdul
Razak.All of them is Malaysian netball player which is student that comes from UTM
Skudai.For the indoor sport such as silat and judo, UTM also has the representatives that’s
going to the Malaysian level such as “SUKMA” and SEA games 2015.For silat, UTM has
Muhammad Faizul and for Judo UTM has Nik Norlydiawati Nik Azman.All of this athletes
has bring the UTM name to the Malaysian level.From this result, we know that even they are
student, there`s no problem for them to involve and contribute their skills for our country
sports. By making this UTM games programme in every year, maybe UTM will produce
more athletes that can go further in every type of sports that can bring UTM names into the
global.
As a multimedia crew, the task that I had received from the head of crew is very
related to my course which is Multimedia and Graphic Software, and I have an experience
during my internship and working. After I graduate from Diploma, I worked in one of
printing company that known as “Dr Cetak ”.My position in this company as a designer and
sales team, from this job scope I have designed so many type or marketing content for the
company`s customer such as banner, bunting, flyers, and brochure, so as a designer for this
UTM games event is not very difficult for me to handle and finish it on time because I can
reduce the time in designing by implementing my skills and by the experience that I have.
This type of task also will give a benefit for me to polish my creativity and idea in designing
a marketing content and gain more experience by working in the new environment, new team
and new objective. This new experience also can give an advantage to me that I can add in
my resume and cv after i graduate from this UTM that I can use to apply a job that related to
my course which is Science Computer ( Multimedia & Graphic Software). From this
multimedia crew that I joined, I also have polish my team working skill since I have to work
in team to settle up every task for this event.
From this UTM games, the most important aspect that I have learnt is from this
multimedia crew because working in team can polish my team working skill since I have to
work in team to settle up every task for this event. Working in team give me a lot of benefit
compare to working alone because work in team we can learn something new and do the
work faster. For example, if we do something or lack of knowledge in certain parts, our
teammate that master in that parts will help us to overcome an solve the problem and we can
learn from it more faster than explore by our self. In team, cooperation is the most important
aspect we should apply in our self because cooperation will help us to communicate well in
doing some task to make it easier to finish on time. Moreover, working in team can improve
our discipline by managing the time well because any task that we received sometimes its
related to the others team member. For example, the task that require us to finish first before
we pass to others team members, so if we late submit it will effects the other people
submission too and it maybe effect the emotional feelings of each team members that lead to
uncomfortable working environment.
In the future, if UTM or any organizer organize any kinds of events that will attract
my interest to take a part I will not miss that opportunity and I will join again the event and to
keep improving myself skills to be better designers by helpings others people such as team,
player and organizer to make that event running clearly by making the advertisement become
more happening co pare to before. By joining for the next events it also will help me to gain
more knowledge in multimedia field such as new software, new skills, new features and so
on. Other than that, by joining others event I also can polish more for my soft skills such as
team working, time management, leadership and so on. Actually, during our study there’s a
lot of programme or events that has been organize by some of clubs in the university that will
give a benefit and advantage to us by joining it that will helps us in the future purpose. For
example in organize the activity or to apply a job. I will apply all of my experience and
knowledge if my application is approve in some of the company and I will helps the company
to improve their working efficiency.
