This volunteer program was organised by UTM ISS Yemen and hosted by international students. I have decided to join as a volunteer of the International Student Society (ISS) of Libya in this program to help the victims. Moreover, the camp was focused on communication skills as well as thinking skills. The event was held at Hulu Langat.
Introduction
The programme began with a meeting of students at the UTM International office, followed by a 3 a.m. departure from Johor to Hulu Langat.
The participants all came from diverse backgrounds, not only geographically but also in terms of their involvement in communication skills. The president of ISS Yemen oversaw the programme. Given that I was not expecting it, this was a welcome surprise.
The program's goal was to assist flood victims.
First, I assisted the victims by removing the damaged items from their homes and disposing of them in the garbage. However, the task was difficult, yet teamwork is enjoyable.
Secondly, I started cleaning the yards and the street, In addition, I meet the locals, we became friends and they were so friendly and I was happy to help them.
Conclusion
This programme was beneficial to me. When I am helping to flood victims and see their smiles and gratitude, I feel joyful and proud. Furthermore, I learnt how to communicate with people who do not speak English, and I also improved my communication skills by working with volunteers for a few hours for the first time.
It was a wonderful and charming programme.
