Career and Leadership skills
This talk was organised by PERSAKA and featured several AirAsia software engineering leaders. I decided to participate in this talk because it was closely related to my field of study. Furthermore, this is a company that I would like to work for during my internship. The discussion centred on career and communication skills, as well as critical thinking abilities. WebEx was used to host the event online.
INTRODUCTION
The session began with a brief introduction from the Air Asia management team. They all came from diverse backgrounds, not only geographically but also in terms of their specialisation in SDLC (Software development life cycle). Dr. Haszlina, who was my first-year university lecturer, oversaw the presentation. Given that I was not expecting it, this was a pleasant surprise. The talk was intended for final-year students, but I thought it provided valuable insight into my future career.
THE PANDEMIC IMPACT ON AIR ASIA AND WHAT IT MEANT FOR SOFTWARE ENGINEERS
Air Asia, like many other companies around the world, has seen a significant drop in sales. The key reason for this is because their business model was centred on air travel and how to make it inexpensive to individuals. However, with the mobility restrictions imposed both nationally and globally, it became clear that Air Asia need a significant adjustment in their business strategy to seek alternatives in order to remain a profitable business. The discussion then moved on to the significance of software engineers and how they spend their days tackling challenges in a creative and rigorous manner.
This discussion, in my opinion, was valuable to me. I'm excited to intern at a company that uses cutting-edge technology and approaches to create modern software that evolves with its users to achieve a brighter future for all of us.
