Technology & Information System (TIS)

Information systems (IS) are formal, sociotechnical, organizational systems designed to collect, process, store, and distribute information. In a sociotechnical perspective, information systems are composed by four components: task, people, structure (or roles), and technology.

A computer information system is a system composed of people and computers that processes or interprets information. The term is also sometimes used in more restricted senses to refer to only the software used to run a computerized database or to refer to only a computer system.

Information Systems is an academic study of systems with a specific reference to information and the complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create and also distribute data. An emphasis is placed on an information system having a definitive boundary, users, processors, storage, inputs, outputs and the aforementioned communication networks.

During this class, we are being taught on the basic principles and functions of the computer system world. So here are some of the projects that have been done till the present time :

Technology & Information System Projects

Digital Logic (DL)

Digital, or Boolean Logic is the fundamental concept underpinning all modern computer systems. Put simply, it's the system of rules that allow us to make extremely complicated decisions based on relatively simple "yes/no" questions. Digital logic is important in programming, as well. Understanding digital logic makes complex decision making possible in programs.

Digital electronics is the foundation of all microprocessor-based systems found in computers, robots, automobiles, and industrial control systems. This course introduces the students to digital electronics and provides a broad overview of many important concepts, components, and tools. Students will get up-to-date coverage of digital fundamentals-from basic concepts to programmable logic devices.

In this class, we are thought about using logic to solve problems and how technology also uses basic human logic to solve complex problems. We learn stuffs such as truth tables, timing diagrams and circuits.

Gratitude Success Attributes (GSA)

Gratitude Success Attributes course aims to serve the need of the students to understand and apply the attribute of UTM graduate skills. This course guides students in developing basic skills which consist of communication, thinking, scholarship, teamwork & leadership, adaptability, global citizenship and enterprising skills. This course also prepares them to face the real challenging world. In this course, students will be assessed through various class activities such as individual case study and group project.

We learn a lot about basic living skills and how to be prepared for our work life after degree. This course helps students overcome their fear of being social, open-minded and being a part of a team. Our final project especially has helped us all apply every aspect of our class lectures into action, in order to fulfil the requirements.

Malaysian Dynamics (MD)

Malaysian Dynamics is a subject that teaches us about history in Malaysia, so as a student, we have to know everything about our country's history in order to better ourselves . Understanding history helps build a nation, acts as instruments to build an identity which brings the spirit of patriotism & nationalism and also as a guide for us as we move into the future.

Malaysian Dynamics is more of an activity-based class, which helps us get to know ourselves and our surroundings even more, instead of just staying in class in front of books. Our projects involve activities such as campaigning, promoting cleanliness and patriotism and many more. Activities like these are much more effective at delivering the essential information to our target audience and also helps us understand better.

Here are some of our projects so far :

Programming Technique I (PT1)

Programming Technique I is a fundamental subject in computer science course which equips students with theory and practice on problem solving techniques by using the structured approach. Students are required to develop programs using C++ programming language, in order to solve simple to moderate problems. The course covers the following parts, such as pre-processor directives, constants and variables, data types, input and output statements, control structures: sequential, selection and loop, built-in and user-defined functions, single and two dimensional arrays, file operations, pointers, and structured data types.

As a first year student, this class is essential for us as a platform for us to get introduced to the wide world of programming. Topics such as arrays, files, pointers help us to dive deeper into programming, and become more familiar as we progress into year 2, 3 & 4.

Here are some of the works and assignments that I have done :

Science & Technology Thinking (STT)

Science & Technology Thinking course explores the development of science and technology in human civilisation from classical to modern. The main focus is on the ecosystem of scientific thought that includes aspects of human and religious relations, the importance of the value and ethical systems, and the role of science in life. In addition, the course also emphasises paradigm shifts, holistic solutions to current issues, transformations and innovations, science and technology philosophies in the context of National Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy in line with Industry 4.0 development and efforts towards strengthening science and technology in our country.

During this class, we learn the evolution of technology from centuries ago till this present day, and how technology has revolutionised the way we live our lives. The rapid advancement of current technology also allows us to experiment with stuffs that we have only dreamt once upon a time.

Discrete Structure (DS)

Discrete Structure introduces students to the principles and applications of discrete structure in the field of computer science. The topics that are covered in this course are set theory, proof techniques, relations, functions, recurrence relations, counting methods, graph theory, trees and finite automata. At the end of the course, the students should be able to use set theory, relations and functions to solve computer science problems, analyze and solve problems using recurrence relations and counting methods, apply graph theory and trees in real world problems and use deterministic finite automata & finite state machines to model electronic devices and problems.

This course helps us to better understand how the system processes the programming and the actual work that goes in the background. As you progress through the units of this course, you will develop the mathematical foundations necessary for more specialised subjects in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and compiler design.

These are some of the examples of exercises that I have done :

Probability and Statistical Data (PSDA)

Statistics and Probability are sections of mathematics that deal with data collection and analysis. Probability is the study of chance and is a very fundamental subject that we apply in everyday living, while statistics is more concerned with how we handle data using different analysis techniques and collection methods. These two subjects always go hand in hand and thus you can't study one without studying the other. Randomness and uncertainty are imperative in the world and thus, it can prove to be immensely helpful to understand and know the chances of various events.

Learning of probability helps you in making informed decisions about likelihood of events, based on a pattern of collected data. Descriptive statistics together with probability theory can help them in making forward-looking business decisions. Core statistical concepts are needed to be learned in order to excel in the field. There’re some basic algorithms and theorems that form the foundation of different libraries that are widely used in data science.
