Reflection
Based on the activity (debate/group discussion TH)
One of the activities that I participate in the Graduate success attribute class is debate. We are assigned to groups of 5.The topic of my group for the debate is "Send baby to nursery is better than babysitter". My group is affirmative and we support the saying. We create a whatsapp group and we discuss and share our points in the whatsapp group. This is to let us understand and clear about our points that we will use in the debate. Each of us will find and add on the points in the whatsapp group. Before we have our debate we discuss who is going to take which points to talk and the flow of people to talk. During the debate, we try to support our group members' points and try to oppose our opponents' saying or points. We have to trust our group members and try to think about what they said and try to figure out points that might support the idea and oppose the opponent ideas. Another activity that I participate in in the Graduate success attribute class is the TH discussion. It is during the coronavirus outbreak and the Malaysia Control Order is going on . Lecturer assigned us into groups of 3 and we had a chance to pick which topic we would like to discuss about . The topic we choose is "Do you agree with the quote ‘Stress can be the kiss of death or the spice of life’? Justify your answer.". Although we are not able to have face to face discussion physically, we are still able to discuss it online using whatsapp. One of the group members , Aina created a whatsapp group and then we started to discuss. We discuss what we should prepare and what language we want to use . When we face a problem we just ask in a group and we answer the question that we could. When all of us do not really know about something , we also take initiative to ask other friends that are from other groups . We asked how to have the TH discussion with the lecturer . At first , we did not know that we would have the TH discussion with the lecturer using Whatsapp. We get to know it by asking friends from other group. Before the session with the lecturer to have our TH discussion, we discuss on the flow of the TH discussion and we had a testing on the video call using Whatsapp because we did not use it before to do so . Since aina and syak more familiar with this , hence they try to video call me and I am responsible to receive it. During the TH discussion we try to understand each other's points and come up with the conclusion for ourselves and for our group.It is great to have teamwork in the discussion as your team members might get your back. When we face problem , we try to solve it together which make us feel not so hard as we do it together , the workload already been minimize and we share the problem together. Sometimes we need to volunteer to do some task so that the group discussion or the group may move on . There might have group members that is very shy. So we should try to volunteer ourselves not necessary to do it alone, we can maybe say that we are incharge in it and other will also help us to do it.Without the first move, the progression of the work will not move on.
Choose Based on one activity/program I had participated before
One of the programs that I participate at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is the BigQuery(intermediate) workshop. I am a speaker for the workshop.Besides that, I am a member in the department of Google Cloud platform department in Utm Developer Student Club. Our department plans to have a workshop on 13 March 2020 which will be located at Bt6 Level 5, School Of Electrical Engineering , Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 8 am to 3 pm.It is to introduce Google cloud platform's BigQuery to others. My other department friends and I had already joined as a committee and facilitator in another workshop that was conducted by our seniors in the club. Because of that , we have to conduct the workshop ourselves this time. The part that i incharge is to provide an hour tutorial or lesson for the participants. We will have three speakers that day. I have to deliver the topic or we called it one hands on labs to the participants. So I have to read ,understand and simplify the topic . I got prepared for some extra notes slides that might help to let the participants more understand about the topic I deliver. Before we ask permission from HEP , we have to prepare a proposal first . For the proposal , we do it together as we need to plan how much time is needed and the budget of the workshop. We have to prepare food for the participant and we have to arrange the flow and also the most important part is the duration of the workshop. We have to discuss which hands on labs are suitable for the participant and the time that the labs might take . We also have to allocate some time for the participants to get the google cloud platform credential that is very important as we need the credential to use the platform for the BigQuery . After a lot of group meetings and discussion , we finish the proposal. Our senior and one of my department mates ask the permission from the HEP and book a place for our workshop.The department of multimedia of our club will help us make a poster of our workshop.They also help us print out the certificate for the participants. All our club members blasted the message of our workshop in whatsapp. While I am preparing myself to speak in front of the participant , my department mates are also preparing their part. Some are receiving registrations and some also preparing themselves to talk . After we stop the registration of our workshop , we come to a situation where most of the participants are new to BigQuery.After we discuss , we change the topic that we are gonna deliver. One day before our workshop , Veejay , one of my department mates, and I went to get the key for the room from a lecturer. For the day of the event , we arrived earlier and we set up the room for registration and the screen for the participants to view. We also arrange the desk and we plugs in extension that the participant might use. After the registration for attendance , we start our workshop. During the workshop, whoever didn't speak in front at that time ,they will help to facilitate the participants although the speaker will do so. A friend from multimedia department will helps us take photo. When we face a problem that we cannot fix ,we will ask each other and we solve it together.Luckily we are able to solve all the problems that participants face. During the workshop, we distribute the lunch and the certificate together to make the process faster. Luckily our workshop was still able to be held at that time ,because at that time there already were covid-19 issues in Malaysia. There are a lot of participants who did not come due to that , but luckily the amount that participated is more than half of the original amount. If only one person comes , we also will continue to hold our workshop. From this workshop , I learned how to work in a team and be brave to speak in front of crowds. I also get to improve my soft skill as at least I try to speak although there might be some awful situations where the participants did not answer the questions that I asked. We should not think that we work a lot already and we just let others to do or we lazy to do and let others to do . Its is a teamwork , we have a same goal which is to make the workshop a success so we have to cooperate as much as we can. When we know what is our goal and our responsibility it will be more easier to work.When we faced problem , we share the problem and we try to overcome it together. This lighten the problem for us and make the workshop even better. Without teamwork the workshop will not going on smoothly. This is because many things is needed to handle in the event.
