Design Thinking

Selected Topic: Input and Output

We had made 2 input and output prototypes by implementing the design thinking we learned earlier in this course - Technology and information System (TIS).

In this assignment, we focussed on the problems faced by the old folks and found that their safety was the biggest concern, whether it was of their own or the families. So, we came out with the ideas of creating the products that could ensure their safety or to alert the families.

You can watch the video below to find out what we had done!

Design Thinking Process

Summary of the Video

Basically, there are 5 modes in design thinking process, which are Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Testing. The reason for implementing each of them is because by following these modes one by one, we are able to from a clear idea of what exactly we have to do in our mind. We will have a clearly defined problem, objective, mission and vision.

In this video,

Empathy - We observed and interacted with the interviewees

Define - We had the targeted group (old folks)
             - Found their needs and the main problems faced

Ideate - Brainstorming and generating ideas
             - Selecting idea

Prototyping - Just build!

Testing - Refine the solutions

My Reflection

I want to learn more about the technology world and I hope that I could be a part of the groups, who have passion for improving well-being. This project has helped me in understanding and implementing the design thinking skills, which could assist me better in the future, especially if I ever wanted to create a real product. Computational thinking can also be involved in doing a project, where we can break down a complex problem into smaller and simpler parts to solve. In order to improve my potential in this industry, I would improve my knowledge about Internet of Things (IoT) as it provides effectiveness, productivity and efficiency to our lives.
