Communication skills

Communicate with others helps in preparing and doing the jobs correctly and satisfying. Jobs can be done more efficient and effectively when communicate with others to get more ideas, opinions and so on.

Thinking skills

Critical thinking needed to be implemented to solve various kind of problems that I faced during the preparation on the materials for building the models for the opening ceremony.

Leadership and teamworking skill

Leadership skill and teamworking skill is important as the project must had a leader to guide us when me and my group members are doing the jobs. As the models to be built were huge and large, hence, it was very tough for a person to complete it. Team working have to be implied, team members worked together to achieve the success in the event.

Pesta Tanglung was held for 2 days on 29 and 30 November 2019 in Tasik Ilmu, UTM. Pesta Tanglung was a mooncake festival and cultural night and it was very interesting for other races to explore on Chinese culture here. During the event, the participants are not only from the UTM students but it was opened for parents, siblings, students from other universities to joined. Some universities that had attend this event were Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, Universiti Utara Malaysia in Kedah, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn in Johor and so on. There were various booth set up such as food, souvenirs, game stations and so on. Participants could purchase the coupons from the counter to be used for buying the food, souvenirs and as a token to play games too. There were some performances carried out to entertain the audience. Among them were dancing, singing, hip hop, drama and so on.

As part of the members of this club, I joined a department called program group which decides and arranges the entertainment to be performed during the event. I was responsible for the opening event with 3 other members. Opening event was very important to catch the audiences’ eye and must be interesting. 

During the building of the model that needed to be present on stage at the beginning of the event, we failed a lot of times as the design was not our expectation. We did not give up on trying new ways to build it, gain some information or advice from other seniors from other departments and so on. This had improved our thinking skill and team working skill. I spent a lot of time from day to night, working with my teammates to overcome those problems that we faced during the building process. It was a very tiring experience for us to work on the model until late night and walk back to our hostel at midnight. 

Lastly, during this activity or event, I learn a lot of team working skills on problem solving when we face the problem on our design as it is not our expectation and so on. Through this activity, the existence of team working skills is really needed and is a must so that this kind of large-scale event can be done efficiently and effectively.
