Mini Report
I was the Bureau Chief of 3rd Technology International Varsity Mandarin Debate Championship. This championship was held from the 17th of September to the 18th of September 2022 and 24th of September to 25th of September 2022. The preparation of the championship started since March 2022 until the closing of the championship in October 2022. The 3rd Technology International Varsity Mandarin Debate Championship focused on the communication skills, thinking skills as well as the leadership skills and teamworking skills as the Graduate Attributes. This Championship invited 24 debate teams from university around the world including Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Australia, Singapore and Auckland. The teams were required to debate with another random team by drawing lots a week before the championship starts. The winner will continue to the next round of championship. At the end, Renmin University of China won the championship.
Self-reflection
Throughout the preparation phase and competition phase of the 3rd Technology International Varsity Mandarin Debate Championship, I learned on how to communicate with externals especially the judges of debate who are having different nationalities, background and personalities. As a Bureau Chief, I developed myself to be more organized and supportive to my members as there were a lot of sudden incidents happen during competition and even during the preparation phase of the championship. As we need to invite a lot of university debate teams and debate judges around the world, task delegation and support are very important in order to reach the target of invitations. Then, we also need to apply our thinking skills when we deal with all debate teams and judges so that they will not have bad impression on our championship and think that the championship is not professional. Other than that, I found that I am an organized person who would like to schedule everything well and organized the information into searchable trackers. I faced challenges when I was dealing with judges as we need to schedule their judging rounds that all judges were having different personal schedules. I overcame it by utilizing my own strength by organized the schedules into trackers to sort the schedule out.
