Mini Report
In this report, I will provide an overview of the Research Information Literacy activity that I recently participated in as an undergraduate student. The report highlights the justification for joining the activity, the focused graduate attributes, and the content covered during the activity.
As an undergraduate student, I recognised the importance of developing strong research and information literacy skills to succeed in my academic journey and future career. Joining this activity provides me excellent chance to improve my skills to identify, assess, and apply material efficiently for research reasons. It also enabled me to improve my critical thinking and analytical abilities, which are essential for academic achievement and lifetime learning.
The three attributes of graduates that were focused on by this activity are communication skills, thinking skills, and adaptability. For the first attribute, communication skills, this activity aimed to help me improve my ability to articulate ideas, ask relevant questions, and engage in discussions related to research topics. This is because it helps in presenting research findings and collaborating with peers and faculty members. The second attribute is thinking skills. This activity focused on enhancing my ability to analyse data, think critically about research methodologies, and draw connections between different research studies. The last attribute is adaptability. Through this activity, I learned to strengthen my adaptability skills, enabling me to embrace changes, explore emerging research practises, and stay current with evolving information resources.
Next, the content of this activity is to introduce undergraduate students to research information literacy, research methodologies and design, information evaluation, and critical thinking. Through this activity, undergraduate students also get an overview of the importance of information literacy in research programmes, the different types of information sources and their credibility, and strategies for critically evaluating information sources.
The Research Information Literacy for Undergraduates activity provided a valuable opportunity to enhance my communication skills, thinking skills, and adaptability. The content covered during the activity equipped me with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to conduct effective research, critically evaluate information sources, and communicate research findings effectively. This activity has laid a strong foundation for my future academic and professional pursuits, enabling me to excel in research endeavours and become a proficient information-literate undergraduate student.
Self-Reflection
Participating in the Research Information Literacy for Undergraduates activity was a fantastic experience that influenced my development of graduate qualities substantially. The exercises emphasised communication skills, critical thinking, and adaptation, and they aided in my personal and academic development. In my self-reflection, I will analyse the influence of the activities on the development of my graduate traits, emphasise my self-strength and advantage in the activities, and address the problems encountered and how I overcame them.
This activity, in my opinion, has given me a significant opportunity to build and reinforce my graduate characteristics. The emphasis on communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and adaptability has enabled me to become a more successful researcher, communicator, and student. I am convinced that these qualities will help me in my academic studies and beyond as I begin my future profession in research and information literacy.
One of my strengths and advantages towards the activities was my prior experience conducting research and working with information sources. This familiarity gave me a solid foundation to build upon during the activities and allowed me to actively contribute to group discussions and share insights with my peers. Additionally, I faced challenges related to technological aspects. Some activities required the use of specific software or tools that I was unfamiliar with, which initially posed a barrier to my progress. However, I sought support from instructors, utilised online tutorials and resources, and dedicated extra time to familiarise myself with the required technologies. This allowed me to overcome the challenges and effectively utilise the tools for conducting research and information analysis.
In conclusion, the Research Information Literacy for Undergraduates activity has had a significant impact on my personal and academic growth. The activities focused on communication skills, thinking skills, and adaptability, enhancing my abilities in these areas. My prior experience and enthusiasm for research acted as strengths, while challenges such as time management and information evaluation were overcome through effective planning, engagement, and seeking support when needed. This experience has undoubtedly equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit me in my future academic pursuits and professional endeavours.
