Mini Report
This Chinese New Year Celebration is an event organized by Kelab Bahasa Mandarin UTM. Kelab Bahasa Mandarin is a club that offers Mandarin class. This Mandarin class is open to any students in UTM who are interested to learn Mandarin language. I joined this event with a simple purpose, which is to experience Chinse New Year celebration inside university, which is my first time. The main purpose of this event is to encourages everyone to have a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture and ways of celebrating Chinese New Year as well as other festive seasons. There are a lot of games and performances related to traditional Chinese culture performed there, as well as booth that sell traditional Chinese snacks.
This event encouraged a few graduate attributes such as communication skills, adaptability skills and global citizen. This event involved a lot of interactions, so communication skill is crucial. We have to sit in a hall surrounded by a lot of students that we do not know, and we have to communicate with them. While the adaptability skill is also important in this event, there are a lot of different games and performances performed in that event that I first time seeing it, so I have to keep an open mind to accept and enjoy those performances. Other than that, participating in a Chinese New Year celebration event promotes global citizenship. It offers an opportunity to learn about and engage with a different culture, fostering intercultural understanding, respect, and appreciation.
Self-Reflection
I have a great experience joining this event as I believe that I have improved my graduate attributes skills. In this event, communication skill is highly need for me as I have met a lot of new faces. I improved my communication skills by interacting with the people that I have first met. I have experienced a lot of unfamiliar activities such as different types of traditional Chinese performance in this event. It helps improve my adaptability skill as I have to appreciate different types of unfamiliar traditional performance with an open mind. This program provided an opportunity for cross-cultural exchange, fostering intercultural understanding, respect, and appreciation. By actively participating and engaging with the diversity of Chinese tradition, I broadened my global perspective which is related to the global citizenship.
It is counted as a challenge for me to join this event as usually I am not fully comfortable to be in a big crowd like this event. I faced this challenge by trying to communicate and interact with people surrounding me in this event. I have to make myself comfortable in this type of event.
