Introduction

This report explained in great detail about an exhibition visit, PECIPTA’19 which was held at Dewan Sultan Ibrahim (DSI) in University of Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) on 22th September 2019. First and foremost we would like to thank Dr. Adila Firdaus Binti Arbain, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia lecturer’s of Technology and Innovation System (TIS) subject for giving us the opportunity to get the experience

PECIPTA is a program organized by the Ministry of Education Malaysia. PECIPTA aims to showcase the  innovative research, products and services from national and international institutions of higher learning (IHL). There a few categories in the exhibition which were Biosciences and Biotechnology, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Health and Allied Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities.

The theme for PECIPTA’19,“Innovation Beyond Imagination”,in which PECIPTA will showcase various types of technologies and inventions for the benefit of mankind. The exhibition was launched by YBHG. Datin Paduka Ir Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir which Director General Ministry of Education Malaysia (Higher Education) and was enclosed by Dr. Maszlee Bin Malik which Minister of Education Malaysia.

Details Of Journey

On 22th September 2019, Sunday we departed to University of Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) via a bus at 1.45p.m. led by Dr. Adila Firdaus Binti Arbain. On 3.15 p.m. we arrived at Dewan Sultan Ibrahim,University of Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM). We were divided into a group of 3 according to our previous assignment group to explore the exhibition. PECIPTA exhibition showcases a lot of booths from local universities, agencies and research institutes.  We went back to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) at 5 p.m and safely arrived at 8 p.m.

Detailed Descriptions

At the PECIPTA exhibition, the first booth we came across is about a self-healing magnetorheological elastomer(MRE), a type of substance that could self heal and be used in an automobile tyre. Dr Shuib, our presenter from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) explained how the substance should be used. He also showcases the substance and proving its ability to self heal. This self-healing magnetorheological elastomer(MRE) works in tyres by forming a seal layer, which is placed inside the tyre corresponding to tread pattern. In case of penetration by external objects such as nails, there is no need for immediate roadside tyre changes, the material deals immediately with the hole. In most cases, its fast and effective action means that the driver would not even realise that the tyre has been punctured. We learn that it cost around RM3 per car tyre for the sealing layer to be applied, which is much cheaper compared to the silicon-based instant spray which are around RM20. Overall, we think self-healing magnetorheological elastomer(MRE) is a great concept that could potentially reduce road accidents due to tyre blowout.

The second booth we visited are more related to cybersecurity from university of Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM). Dr Ashraf explained some issues related to data breach and data leaked. He explained , one of the ways to reduce the risk of the data breach is by encrypting the data itself. An encrypted data are much harder to be breach by criminals. The Rabin-p key encapsulation mechanism are expected to solve this problem. However, the level of security are not mentioned. How does it compare to others encrypted method is questionable, but it is still a step up in improving our industry and government agencies. Overall, the objective of the invention is great, but need further details in implementing it.

The last booth we visit are from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, they invent an application called QUEUING SOLUTION which offers a better queueing experience. The application can be easily used via a smartphone. By creating this app, excessive queuing during peak hours could be solved. Queuing solution works by receiving and updating queuing list numbers via smartphone, which are highly efficient compared to the traditional method. Users are also able to get their ticket number via smartphone. We think this could be one of the inventions in 2019, being able to go to bank, hospital without going through the hassle of waiting is a time saver. The application does not only useful to customers, but also to the industry organization in improving their service performance. Overall, we think the queuing solution should be implemented throughout the industries.

Travel Details

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) lecturer's Dr Adila  Firdaus binti Arbain was the one who lead Technology Information System students from section 9 to Pecipta's Exhibition in University of Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) via Universiti Teknologi Malaysia(UTM) official bus.

Student’s Feedback

The industrial visit went successfully. PECIPTA exhibition showcases a variety of new concepts, and technologies. The presenters know what they are explaining. The staff are friendly and helpful. We learn that technology does not necessarily need to be expensive and revolutionary, but a solution in improving human quality of living. A concept that came from a simple idea, If are execute could potentially bring a new solution in fixing small to world problems.
