4. Mini Report

On 16 March 2021, I attended the programme KOLEJ TUN DR. ISMAIL SPORTS & E-GAMES 2021 which was organized by SEGA KTDI.

Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail Sport & E-games, better known as SEGA, is one of the most successful annual programs at Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail (KTDI). The main purpose of this program is to provide opportunities for students to engage in sports activities and cultivate the spirit of sports. SEGA’22 was implemented online. The sports program was officiated by Mr. Armadi bin Ahmad as the Acting Director, Sports Center of Excellence, Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Department (Student Affairs). SEGA'22 has the potential to become a national level programme in the face of modernisation, as the area of e-sports expands globally.

Various tournaments are organised for each sort of game, whether played on a smartphone or a computer. These tournaments were held not only on an international scale, but also at the school and university levels. This has a favourable influence on Malaysia's human capital development.

Finally, via their engagement in physical and online sports, SEGA'22 was able to make a significant impression on the students.

5. Self-reflection

Initially, I couldn't find any of my teammate when I found out this event as my usual teammates were from other universities. Luckily, I was able to find 4 of my precious new teammates through my UTM ASASI Whatsapp group. It consists of 2 Chinese, 2 Indian, and 1 Sabahan. All of us were from diverse cultures and background. The key to success for our team is communications. As a In-Game-Leader/Shotcaller, I was able to convey my ideas clearly and effectively. I also have the ability to lead and influence my team members to complete given tasks. When I made the wrong decision for the team, I was able to listen actively towards my teammates and respond accordingly.

Nothing is more important than a good leader and good team working in a team game. I was able to establish rapport, interact and work effectively with others to accomplish common objectives. When we face losses, we were able to understand each others' attitude and behavior, respect each others' ideas and have mutual trust.

4. Mini Report

Ms. Qistina also discussed her industrial training with TMONE, as well as her employment as a Social Media Data Analyst and Data Engineer at TMONE. Ms. Qistina also discussed employment options for fresh graduates in the Data Engineering profession, which may be explored in adjacent disciplines such as online analytics, cloud computing, and many more. Ms. Qistina discussed the obstacles she experienced at work and gave the attendees information on the future of Data Engineering and the abilities they need further acquire and improve. Last but not least, Muhammad Akmal Hisham, President of PERSAKA, was asked to make the concluding statement for DESYMP '21. Overall, DESYMP '21 was deemed a success and concluded successfully

5. Self-reflection

From this talk, the students are able to understand the future prospect and career opportunities of data engineering. This talk has explained the importance of having the ability to adapt to the culture of new communities and work environment. For me, I think it is crucial for students to work effectively under pressure and have initiative to change. The speaker has also told us how important to brush up our soft skills. This make me realize that having the ability to make clear presentations to a diverse audience with confidence is very important in my future paths. Not only that, she emphasize that engineers always work in a group. From this, I realize that I must think expand on and discuss ideas among the team more often. It helps me to look for alternative ideas and have more creative solutions by listening for different perspectives.

Reflections on my degree program(Year 1)

Program: Bachelor Of Computer Science (Data Engineering) With Honours

My goal/dream concerning this program.

The reason I have chosen this course is because of one of the drama I have watched before named Line Walker 3: Bull Fight. This drama shows me how much data is affecting the world nowadays and how important it is to know about it.

I wish to learn about all the incredible things about data engineering includes application and harvesting of big data. I would also want to become expert in system architecture, programming, and database design.

My final goal to this program is that I would become a qualified data engineer and I would have the chance to involve myself in the industry in Malaysia

My action/improvement/plan necessary for me to improve my potential in the industry

As a year 1 semester 1 student right now, I felt satisfied with myself as I have plenty of industry experience from my previous employment history. This year, I have attended 3 industrial talks conducted by UTM which highly extend my knowledge about the industry.

I have also attended one of the event (Startup Weekend Johor Bahru) by UTMXCITE. This event helps me to improve my soft skills especially expression ability and a deep understanding for startups.

In my future plans, I wish to have internships experience in overseas company in every semester breaks. I have worked as part-time in two of the local company before and their organizational culture is more or less the same and I think it is important for me to feel the culture for overseas company or larger company with all the experience that I have got now. I am sure that I can learn so much from it.

So, in order to improve myself, I will have to read at least a book in a month. I would also need to improve my soft skills and become a more active person.
