TEE HUI YOU's Reflection

UTM National Intervarsity Debating Championship 2021 (UNIDC 2021)

UNIDC 2021 is a brilliant platform provided for youths to voice out their opinions on topics including the economy, politics, environment, philosophy, feminism, and international relations. In order to shape an enlightened society and build a society with expression freedom, this type of event should be organized regularly.

Throughout the event, I feel happy as I can see the participants expressing their own thoughts in straightforward but using polite sentences. These are good signs as it shows that youths nowadays doesn't only focus on the fashion trends and entertainment news regarding certain idol but also keeping an eye on the International Current Affairs and other issues arising either locally or globally. From their speeches, I gained a lot of knowledge and had a new perspective on things.

Professional Tutor Camp Kelab Bahasa Mandarin Semester II Session 2020/2021Professional Tutor Camp Kelab Bahasa Mandarin Semester II Session 2020/2021

This online camp is my first activity conducted since I take office as the Vice Director of KBM. At first, I was a little bit pressured because I am also taking over greater responsibilities. Furthermore, this is the first try to transform the routine event of KBM to be conducted virtually. It was challenging and tough at the early stage.

However, I was grateful as the event was organized smoothly and the main goal of the activity, which was to strengthen the bond among the club members and the committees were achieved. Personally, I think that I gained a lot of experience from this activity. I had better leadership, communication, and thinking skills and polished myself to always be ready for any change

Collaboration Chinese Quiz: Understanding Chinese Traditional Festivals

This activity was my first activity who is conducted collaboratively with representatives of other universities. It was a great opportunity for me to know some representatives from USM, UMT, and UPM. In this activity, I can also honourably introduce myself as the representative of UTM. With this identity with me, I always remind myself to be kind, collaborative and perform as good as I could. Although we are from different courses, background, and even institutions, our goal is the same, which is to conduct a quiz that will introduce the Chinese cultures of each festival either it is well-known or is rarely known to the public.

I do learn a lot from this activity and also from the partners who are coming from different backgrounds. I hope that the COLLABORATION between UTM societies and societies from other institutions can be continued in the future so that more people can get to know about the societies and active students who possess UTM graduate attributes that exist in UTM.

PSDA Project 2

Framingham Heart Study

Inferential statistics are the continuation of descriptive statistic. This project provides exposure to how inferential statistics were done after the stage of conducting a survey to collect data and calculating primary information obtained from the responses. Inferential statistics are useful in research of the various field. This Framingham Heart Study demonstrated the application of inferential statistics to investigate topics in Biology field and how it helps to obtain results which will benefit the humankind. After we did project 1 and project 2, we had a complete application of conducting statistical research on descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.

At the beginning of project 2, during the stage of searching for the dataset, we were reminded to search for a dataset with more than 30 responses. This is because the larger the sample, the more accurate the results that we get in inferential statistics. We were also advised to choose dataset with lots of numeric data so that we have enough variables to conduct the study. Unconsciously, it reminded us to collect more responses with as many numeric data as we can in our future conduction of descriptive statistics for further analysis.

Throughout the working on the project, problems met were solved perfectly under the guidance of our lecturer. Usage of R PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE in this project made our work easier. I believe that r programming language would be an important skill needed for a data engineer to perform well in the workspace in the future.

PSDA Project 1

A Study On Shopping Preference of UTM Students (ONLINE or OFFLINE)

This survey is our first contact in the descriptive statistic. In the beginning, we were struggling to choose a suitable topic to conduct this project. While we were setting the survey questions, we were very confused about the range of questions needed for our further analyses. However, we managed to overcome the confusing step after several discussions.

Next, we found it difficult to analyse the data that we collected. After a few consultations with our lecturer, Dr Chan Weng Howe, we started to get some idea about the flow of analysing. After several meetings among our group members, we planned an even distribution of tasks for each member.

Although we were facing distance problems during this Restriction of Movement Order (RMO) period, we managed to keep in touch with each other using Google Meet and Whatsapp. Lastly, undeniably this project is a good exposure to Descriptive Statistics. I am sure that the pieces of knowledge gain while conducting this project will be very useful in the future.

Malaysian Dynamic

As the name implies, Malaysian Dynamic is a subject which mainly about our Malaysian cultures, ethnics, economies, politics and more. Studies about the issues in our country would undoubtedly help us to know more about what's happening around us and hence, implies new horizons to us about the global dynamic.

As part of Malaysia, undergraduate freshies should be prepared to face the society. We should be physically and mentally prepared to contribute to Malaysia's growth either in social, politic or economy.

Another main concept which is conveyed in this subject is the UNITY between different races. As we all know, our country is made up of various races, each possesses own cultures and even languages. To achieve stability in terms of social and politic, unity of people is undoubtedly important. I've always believed that understanding can bridge people's gap and will continue practising it in the future.

Technology & Information System

In my opinion, TIS is the Introduction of Computer Science to Computer Science students. As a Computer Science student, we need to have a clear idea about the components of a computer system.

As a freshie to Computer Science, I am glad to have this subject which introduces to me about the matters of computer so that I would not get lost at the starting line of my undergraduate life as a Computer Science student. I believe that the knowledge I gained from this subject will lead me to the correct path to become a more qualified Computer Science worker in the future.

Programming Techinique I

I would say that programming is the most important skill required by a Computer Science student. In semester 1, the programming language learnt is C++ programming language. For me, it was the most interesting subject this semester. It was the most challenging subject too. I know very well that the programming basics learnt in this semester is important for the programming skills developing in the upcoming semester. Hence, I will work hard to strengthen my programming skills not only for the CGPA but also to increase my competitive in future workspace.

Discrete Structure

Discrete Structure is the first Mathematic subject introduced to Computer Science students. It is a structure that makes use of Discrete Mathematics.  As most of the computers we are dealing with nowadays are digital devices rather than analogue devices, discrete structure introduces to us a fundamental way of thinking that computer can solve. In short, Discrete Structure is an essential mathematic subject for advanced programming. It provides students with an understanding of analysing computer algorithms.

Discrete Structure is mostly about non-continuous topics. The topics are

  1. Set Theory and Logic
  2. Relations and Functions
  3. Counting and Probability
  4. Graph Theory
  5. Finite Automata

In my opinion, Computer Science students won’t do well in programming WITHOUT the bits of knowledge of discrete mathematics.

Digital Logic

Digital Logic exposes me to the basic of digital computing. It is about the signals and sequences of transmission of data through numbers in a computer system. It strongly requires students to be LOGIC! Although this subject is basically about 0s & 1s, it is not that easy as what we see. In this subject, we learned about the concepts of various logic gates and Integrated Circuits (IC) and their capability to perform functions such as added, encoder, decoder, multiplexer, demultiplexer, comparator, counter and more. We have to be familiar with those components and ways to utilize it to design a logic circuit to solve a specific problem faced. Admittedly, it is an interesting subject which prepares undergraduate students towards the future workspace.
