TEDxUTM2018

Hello! :)

Good to be back here and spare some time to share unforgotten memories with everyone. It all started with a quick video presenting myself, interview and lastly, alhamdulillah selected to be a marketing committee of TEDxUTM2018. Oh by the way, have you heard about the event? Or this is your first time knowing about their existence? It is okay, I am more than happy to spread to let everyone know. To make it short, TEDxUTM is a platform which we provide for people that come from different background of expertise to share their experiences and knowledge during the event.

TEDxUTM2018 gave me such a good memory during my university life because it allows me to shine bright and spark with the help of a good environment. I have never thought that it able to polish a lot of soft skills in me and at the end of the day, I am able to be more confident and speak well when I am in front of a lot of people especially in English. For your information, I am the only Malay, Muslim female and the only representative from AHIBS in this program. I was at my lowest knowing that all the communication(e-mail, Whatsapp and meeting) will be in English since I am not fluent enough with the second language. By the way, our committee does not limit to local but international students too; Egypt, Indonesia and Pakistan.

Being in the marketing team and currently studying marketing, can relate so much. I still remember that I was in-charge in our physical marketing; roadshow of TEDxUTM2018. We went to certain places; PRZ's library, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Civil Engineering to promote and acknowledge people about TEDxUTM. We conduct two sessions of Kahoot in every each venue and gave the best gift such as our merchandise to the winners. During that time, to approach even a person seems so tough but day by day, I am able to personally approach and let them know what are we currently promoted without any help of other committees to keep me accompany.

Last but not least, I am so happy to be a part of them and meeting so many people from different faculties. I am so grateful that everyone is very kind and able to help whenever anyone in need of help. My teammate helps me a lot and they always make me feel "belong", well I guess it boosts my confidence and adapts so fast. I will cherish this memory forever and I hope everyone will be doing great in their future.

Love, Farahin.

ISO: Quality Management System

Hi everyone! :D

I believe that everyone knows about UTM Professional Skills certificate which a student must attend all the 5 courses offered before graduating. Those courses are;

i) Quality Management System

ii) Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE)

iii) How to Manage Your Personal Finance

iv) How to Get Yourself Employed

v) Test of English Communication Skills for Graduating Students (TECS)

The first three courses are managed by UTMSPACE, the fourth is managed by Office of Undergraduate Studies meanwhile the last course is managed by Language Academy.

All praises to Him, yesterday, I managed to settle my last course which managed by UTMSPACE; ISO(Quality Management System) in my third year of studies. I feel relieved to be able to settle it all since next semester I will start my FYP1 and life will get busier. Among those courses, I think I enjoyed ISO the most. ISO does not relate much to my major, however, most of my subjects are, especially  Management, Principle of Marketing and Knowledge Management System.

I was taught by Assoc. Prof Wan Yusoff bin Wan Mahmood for two days. For day 1, we learnt the importance of ISO, the definition of customer, quality and quality management system, and the application of ISO & industrial based organizations. For day 2, he taught us clauses and interpretation of ISO requirement and establishing ISO for an organization.

As for me, these courses are very important for our employability in the future. Our future company might be interested in hiring us because we have the skills that do not belong to everyone. UTM should continue the professional course and maybe in future, the number of courses should be increased by time.

MMM 2018

MMM 2018; Minggu Mesra Mahasiswa 2018 [Orientation Week]

Back in September 2018, I was in charge to be one of MMM's crew for my college; 9&10 College. By the way, this is my first-time application and I am so happy knowing that I was selected since I knew there was quite a large of number who applied too. Asraf, Madeehah and I were assigned to be in the 'food & beverages' unit.

In this program especially related to my job scope, I learnt;

  • How to manage your time wisely and the importance of being on-time. For example, my team and I need to make sure that catering arrived 15 minutes before breakfast, lunch and dinner time. If they still have not arrived, we need to contact them by phone call. There was one time where they were late. Once the food was not ready at the right time, students will eat a lil bit and they will start to rush to avoid further drag in time.
  • Teamwork plays a big role. There were approximately 400++ new students that were registered in 9&10 College, however, there is only 20++ crew to take care of all of them. It was harder when the students were under control and choose to not listen to our command. Teamwork between each of the crew helps a lot because I can feel how committed we were with our work. Sometimes we work out of our job scope knowing that our friend was in need of our help and drained after days of not getting enough sleep. We have empathy on each other and help whatever we can.
  • Be kind and patience. To be honest I have never expected to receive rude students. It was so hard to keep myself to be positive when you are restless and annoyed. However, life is an option and I choose to ignore because professionalism help me to encounter it well. Moreover, I need to give a good example as a crew and senior.

I would love to be a MMM crew again next year which will be my final year inshaAllah.
