Bengkel Asas Seni Tari (BAKAT) is a dance workshop organised by Citra Daksina to introduce the notion of culture, art, and the history of Malay traditional dance among club members and UTM students. Aside from teaching dance skills, this workshop emphasizes discipline and fundamentals of dance. Futhermore, students are taught every traditional Malay dancing style, including Zapin, Inang and Joget.
This program emphasizes a few graduate attribute skills since students must work in groups and communicate with one another. One of the skills involved was the ability for students to work in groups which enhanced their leadership and teamworking skills. Moreover, adaptability and thinking skills are emphasised since students must behave and think in accordance with the situation and work at hand.
BAKAT was conducted for two days from the 4th until the 5th of November 2022. Students are exposed to a dancing introduction, followed by the exposure to costumes and stage makeup in the next segment of day one. Day two was filled with interactive activities where participants worked in groups and play games. Lastly, to end the workshop, the theory of how the body moves when dancing was taught by our very own club adviser, Pn. Shaleen.
