On 26 October 2021, I attended a career talk conducted by the School of Computing which was supported by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) with a title of "Meet and Greet with Data Experts" in conjunction of AI & Data Week 2021 (AIDW2021). The talk was hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roliana Ibrahim, the director of Applied Computing in UTM, Mr. Looi Boon Hon, a data scientist from DHL, and also Miss Nur Adriana Norashid, a data analyst from ExonMobil. Miss Nur Adriana is also an alumni of Bachelor of Computer Science (Data Engineering). In this career talk, the panels introduced us about the working life of a data scientist in big companies. They also shared with us their experience in the industries and the challenges faced during their working life. Other than that, they also gave us some suggestions on how to improve ourselves in future.
5. Self-reflection
From this session, I had gained insight in the working life of a data scientist. I learnt that besides professional skills in data analyzing, we also need to have several soft skills such as critical thinking skills, leaderships skills, team-working skills and also stress management skills in order to perform in the industries in future. After this talk, I had learnt many knowledge that will help me in my future.
