Reflection regarding the talk entitled: OPPORTUNITIES and STRATEGIES in CRISIS

         Captain Cyrano Latiff are one of the three pilots in the cockpit of SQ006, Boeing 747-412 jet that crashed on a fateful rainy night at Taiwan’s Chiang Kai-Shek airport on 31 October, 2000. On 31 October 2000, the accident involved flight SQ006/SIA006 from Singapore Changi Airport to Los Angeles International Airport via Taiwan. It happened at the Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport (renamed Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport), Taipei, Taiwan. The aircraft crashed into construction equipment on the runway, killing 81 of the 179 occupants aboard.
        After the accident, he obeyed the house arrest instructions for 2 years, which was not easy to obey for a pilot who used to fly. But, luckily Captain Cyrano are the strong person.

         In the talk, captain shared in crisis management there have three stages which is first, PRE-CRISIS are for develop and practice ways to respond to various crisis scenarios. Second, CRISIS RESPONSE are execute the organization’s crisis response team. Third, POST-CRISIS are the review, adjust and update response plan for the future after what has
been happen.
        His involvement and achievement in the SQ006 flight has made him one of the respected pilot wherever he goes including the company that he is currently working at (AirAsia) Hence, his experience and knowledge during and after the crisis of SQ006, flight has given him the opportunity he is now involved in the AirAsia Crisis Management.

         Lesson that I can learnt from this talk are effort to remain connected with others no matter what happen. Next, the strongest support in our life are family. The decisions we make are based on the things that influence us to do something. Focus on certain thing that we want. Plan something what we want to do everyday.

REFLECTION OF SITE VISIT IN PELABUHAN TANJUNG PELEPAS (PTP)

          The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP, UN/Locode: MYTPP) is a container port located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. The port is situated on the eastern mouth of the Pulai River in south western Johor, Malaysia. This places it in close proximity to the Strait of Malacca and Straits of Johor.  

           PTP is a regional transhipment hub for south East Asia and PTP biggest transhipment hub in Malaysia was Maersk, MSC and Evergreen. Other, it has 2 strong shareholder which is MMC 70% and APM Terminals 30% , 3 core businesses, 60 government concession, 110 million TEU handled, 2000 commenced operation, 18 world ranking, 30 shipping lines and box operations, 300 port calls, 1998 free zone authority, 3 500 acres for container terminal and free zone. 

           International trade allows countries to specialize in manufacturing, exporting and importing more efficiently in other countries. It will benefit a country involved in international trade even for a product that can produce its own. A country should specialize in the production of those goods that it produces most efficiently and buy the goods that it produces less efficiently from other countries. Countries will export goods that make intensive use of those factors that are locally abundant, and import goods that make intensive use of factors that are locally scarce.  As products mature both the location of sales and the optimal production location will change affecting the flow and direction of trade. Locations where the business has run must be strategy. PTP will be the very strategy place for logistics activity based on the place and the organisation.
