Simply earning a bachelor’s degree in this era does not meet the requirement for graduates to get employed. Therefore, as degree student, I have undergone industrial training (IT) program in Southern Lion Sdn Bhd, Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 10th June to 30th August 2019. This is a company that manufacturing home, beauty, fabric and oral care products such as liquid detergent, powder detergent, body shower foam, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand liquid soap and more. The established brands under these core segments include BIO-ZIP, TOP, Fresh & White, Puteri Emas, Dobi, Senang, Shokubutsu, Emeron, Systema, Kodomo Lion and Zact. I was under the department of Process Engineering that is focusing on calibration, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and machine replacement. In this department, I was supervised by Mr Fauzi Ahmad, Assistant Manager. I would like to say without his constant support and valuable advice from time-to-time, I would not be able to complete my industrial training.
With the HOD, Mr Tee and Industrial supervisor
Indeed, my internship at Southern Lion has significantly improved my knowledge of working and exploring myself to the real industrial environment. It is a good place to learn and enhance myself. I get to see the actual plant and relates the theory I learnt in MJIIT. For instance, the pump theory I have learnt in MJIIT. I get to know further details on identifying the types of pump and categories it during site visit. From there, I learned to work smart and work independently on finding the information in order to expand my knowledge on pumps. During the training, I joined the Local Ventilation Exhaust meeting, auditing for Fire Certification and Pilot Plant Test Liquid Mixing. I have also known how to manage the schedule waste based on the type in Southern Lion. Besides, I also attended the briefing on Safety Familiarization Program and Good Distributing Practice (GDP). Apart from that, I also have task assigned by my supervisor on summary and analysis the replacement record and preventive maintenance for P2L (Liquid Plant 2) and P2 GMP (P2GMP Plant) using Microsoft Excel. It was inspiring to see how some of the engineers were able to work independently and carry out their plan at work. Throughout the internship, it helps me to discipline myself, be considerate, and take initiative to solve problems. The experienced I gained are useful to me in facing challenges in my future working environment.
