Introduction
Government around the globe are trying to solve the adolescent fertility rate issue in their country. Developing country such as Africa have an average of 114 adolescent fertility rate per 1000 according to WHO which is 10% of the data. In the tradition, female should be married at young age with healthier body to ensure giving birth of healthy child and have enough energy to take care the child, however, as the time passed the culture change, female doesn’t required to give birth as earlier as back in the old times need to. With childbearing in appropriate age, female able to pursue their education and able to fight for better environment or higher position in the company. The realization of the need and effect of education also raise in the modern era and raise a question, what is the effect of education on adolescent fertility rate. In this study, we are going test the relationship of education and adolescent fertility rate in Singapore as Singapore is a developed country that famous in low crime, low corruption and high standard of education system.
Conclusion
Throughout the analysis, Singapore successfully prove itself as developed country with lower mean of adolescent fertility rate than average adolescent fertility rate of globe. From the regression test had proven that there is linear relationship between female secondary enrolment rate and adolescent fertility rate in Singapore. Moreover, from the value of the coefficient of correlation that had been tested the existence of linear correlation, we can conclude that when the female secondary education enrolment rate increase, the adolescent fertility rate will decrease. The female secondary education enrolment rate can affect the adolescent fertility rate might due to a few reason. One of the reason is that female may have more information on the disadvantages of getting early child bearing and the precaution step to prevent pregnancy. Besides female might get a wider opportunity of future with good grade in school if they enroll in secondary education rather than marry early to get a stable future life if they don’t pursue their study in secondary education. To increase the female adolescent fertility rate in the country, government around the globe should increase their expenditure in education so that female adolescent in the country have better choice of future.
Reflection
In this study, I worked on finding the secondary source data from Singapore open source data and world bank data that provide lots of open data that free for analysis. Using functions from rstudio and the knowledge that I learn in university, I able to calculate and analysis the data that I get in csv form and conclude a result for my study.
In this study, I learned further about the knowledge of data gathering and data analysis. Different from the first project that I did which use primary source data, this project which use on secondary source data had improve my ability to analysis the purpose of secondary source data provided and know the potential of secondary source data for further analysis. I also learned how to search and choose for the specific data that I want from the hundreds of open source data available in the website. Besides, by using rstudio, I am getting more familiar with programming language r and learn more function such as lm(), ggscatter() that will help in my data analysis in future research.
Last but not least, I want to thank DR CHAN WENG HOWE for his patient in guiding me throughout the project. During the mco it sure will be difficult to fully understand the information deliver by the lecturer via message and video only, but DR CHAN has patiently guide me and clear my question about the project so that I can complete this project. I also want to thanks the researcher that gather the data and provide it on internet without any payment to access it which will truly help the other researcher to continue their study with less time and more accurate result.
