1. Impact of the activities on the development of the students’ Graduate Attributes

I totally believe that the exposure I’ve got from Youth Speak Forum has greatly improved my Graduate Attributes. This experience gave me the practical opportunity to be part of the team that organizes a big scale event that requires major event planning as well as to engage with various stakeholders such as university authorities, external professionals & speakers, collaborators, and sponsors for the event. Through this experience, I learned numerous valuable knowledge and skillset which I believe will be very useful for me in the future. Leadership and self-management skills which I got to develop in myself in order to properly manage my time to balance between my academic commitments and the responsibilities that I help me to polish my collaborative working skills and be able to work in teams efficiently to deliver the desired results.

2. Self strength/advantage towards the activities

One of the core strengths that I’ve found from my participation in this event will be my discipline and being organized work style. It has greatly helped me to properly plan my task and schedule to be able to do my tasks effectively on time. Besides, my ability to utilize LinkedIn networks to approach our potential program speakers was also a great advantage for me in terms of completing my tasks. LinkedIn enables me to find the most suitable speakers for our event and essentially being able to deliver the desired content for our event delegates.

3. Challenges and how to overcome them

The major challenge I had at the time is about the speaker’s availability whereby a few of them took longer than expected to reply to our invitation as well as to prepare the event materials such as presentation slides and programme notes for the delegates. This has greatly caused our progress to be delayed. From this, I have learned to always pre-plan all our tasks so that any possible delays can be overcome swiftly. Besides, another major challenge was my academic commitments where I had a few tests during the month of December and I had to juggle between my studies and responsibilities to be able to deliver my expected deliverables on time. From here I have learned about the importance of having good time management skills.
