SECP1513-02 (Technology and Informations System)

As a primer subject, this course will introduce students to information systems and technology (IS/IT), as well as its uses in daily life both at home and at work. Various aspects of IS/IT encompassing hardware, software, network,communications, internet, multimedia, graphics and systems applications will be introduced. Students will be equipped with basic skills in handling PC installation and productivity tools via practical work in the labs, which shall comprise a major part of the study. At the end of the course, student should be able to distinguish basic IS/IT component and applications.

DESIGN THINKING CONCEPT

For my first project, I was assigned to Group 9 along with :-

DESIGN THINKING

The Design Thinking method is a structural approach and is widely used to solve problems these days. The method is proven to be effective among System Analysts and Developers as it helps them to configure a project systematically. For this project, we had to correlate the usage of the Design Thinking with the chapter we are assigned with, which is Chapter 12: System Analysis and Design. All the process for this project is documented in the embedded video named 'Design Thinking Video' next to this section. Below are the summarized details regarding our project:

STEP 1: EMPATHY

- Interview with Mr Azlan Zainuddin (Chief Technology Officer of Global PCK Solutions Sdn Bhd), Dr. Murtadha and Mr. Farid.

 

STEP 2: DEFINE

- Held virtual discussions via Whatsapp and Google Meet.

- Topics covered during discussion sessions: Key points from the interview, identifying problem statement and etc.

 

STEP 3: IDEATE

- Brainstorm project ideas (objective, pro's and con's)

- Discuss which idea is the best

 

STEP 4: PROTOTYPE

- Made a system design using Framer

 

STEP 5: TEST

- Tested the prototype to family and friends 

- Get user feedback

COURSE SUMMARY

In this segmentation, I will share my overall reflection of this course on how it has impacted me personally.

Design Thinking Project
  • I gained deeper understanding regarding System Analysis and Design by carrying out an interview with Mr Azlan Zainuddin (CTO of Global PCK Solutions Sdn. Bhd.)
  • I get to enhance my team working skills by frequently communicating with my group mates virtually using Whatsapp and Google Meetings.
  • I learn to accept my lecturer’s comments and intensify my group work quality.
  • I gained better understanding regarding the Design Thinking method and I plan to make use of this technique when dealing with a problem.
Step-by-Step PC Assembly

Due to the pandemic, the actual PC Assembly session cannot be held physically. Therefore, our lecturer gave us an assignment regarding PC Assembly.

  • I learnt about the tools needed in assembling a PC such as screwdrivers, anti-static equipment, light source and many more.
  • I also learnt about the components of a motherboard and their functionality.
  • I learnt how to assemble a PC by watching videos on the Internet and reading reliable sources, hence documenting my findings with group mates.
Industrial Talk 1 - Industry Revolution: Past, Present and Future

Due to the pandemic, we cannot go for industrial visits. Therefore, we had to attend industrial talks virtually using conferencing tools. Our first industrial talk was given by Mr Redzuan Shah.

  • From this talk, I learnt that there were plenty of industrial revolution phases and I get to observe their contributions to the global society.
  • I learnt that Industrial Revolution 4.0 focuses more on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality, Cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and also autonomous robots.
  • I find this talk extremely interesting as I am undertaking a Computer Science degree
Industrial Talk 2 - Alumni Sharing Session
  • I find this talk highly beneficial as I get to listen to the alumni's journey in the working sector.
  • I realized I lack plenty of skills that the speakers mentioned in the talk. I have to be more proactive both during degree and in the working years.
  • I feel more motivated to learn and adjust to new environments after hearing the sharing session by Mr Tan Yong Keong, Miss Qistina Batrisyia and also Mr Mohamad Zamarul.
Cloud Computing Fundamentals

Our class learnt plenty of new knowledge regarding cloud computing, especially Microsoft Azure. For this assignment, we were given the task to compare several Cloud Service Providers such as Microsoft, Google and Amazon. Our group chose Microsoft Azure because it has interesting offers and features if compared to the rest.

  • From this assignment, I get to increase my knowledge regarding cloud computing and its services.
  • Besides that, I get to enhance my decision making skills along with my group mates in order to select the best cloud service provider according to our personal references.

REFLECTION

First and foremost, I would like to thank my respectable lecturer which is Dr. Aryati Bakri for being extremely patient in teaching my class throughout the pandemic. I think having a great lecturer brings a huge impact to my studies and also to increase my interest towards this course. Dr. Aryati not only focuses on course matters but she is also extremely concerned about her students well-being. During her lectures, she will explain in detail regarding the topic and correlates it with the industrial world. Having Dr. Aryati as my lecturer for SECP1513 (Technology and Informations System) is truly a blessing.  Besides that, having great teammates (Ong Han Wah, Rishma Fathima, Madihah and Vincent) makes me enjoy finishing our course assignments as everyone is hard working and kind.
