Electricity usage at KDOJ
On the 19th of December,2018, We (Omar Othman Alkhair Algidi and Talal Othman Alahdal) went to interview the UTM staff at KDOJ about how they solve the issue of high electricity use caused by having so many students with electronic devices in the hostel. We interviewed miss Rosnani Bt.Katip who was kind enough to answer the questions that she had the answers to. An obvious solution for this problem would be to regulate the electronic devices that the students use. Some devices that are essential such as electric kettles are allowed in the hostel, however the owner of the device is required to pay a fee every semester in order to register his item at the hostel. Each item has a certain fee and the fees vary depending on the item. The money earned through this process compensates the electricity used by the devices. Some electrical devices that are not essential or use a huge amount of electricity are strictly prohibited by the KDOJ staff. The list of such items includes refrigerators, stoves, and washing machines. The hostel, however, provides a shared refrigerator, a few washing machines, and an electrical stove on the fifth floor. “How would the staff know if someone broke the rules?”, you might wonder. We had the same question. The answer was that the hostel staff check all of the rooms in the hostel every semester to confirm that everybody is following the regulations. Anyone who is caught with illegal electronic items is fined by the hostel. The kdoj manager was unfortunately not present during the time of our visit so we could not inquire further about this ingesting topic, but we are extremely thankful for the help that Miss Rosnani Bt.Katip and the rest of the KDOJ staff provided us.
