Activity Report 3 - Web Development Workshop

1) Mini Report

JUSTIFICATION IN JOINING THE ACTIVITIES

Web Development Workshop was a workshop which was organized by UTM Robocon club. The main target of this workshop was for the students, especially to the beginners who wanted to develop websites but did not know where and how to start. Hence, the main reason on why I participated in the Web Development Workshop was because I wanted to gain new knowledge as well as develop my skills on creating and developing a website. Back then, I barely had any knowledge on how to develop a website as well as had any skills to create one. Thus, this had motivated me to join the workshop as I could expose myself a little bit to the progress in web development and at the same time, made myself more familiar with the web development environment.

THE GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES THAT ARE FOCUSED ON

• Communication Skills
  • The workshop was focusing on communication skills as the participants need to actively communicate between each other while conducting the activities, especially while learning in creating a website.
• Thinking Skills
  • As this website was about the web development concept, my thinking skills had been enhanced as I had no knowledge regarding the touched concept before.
• Leadership and Teamworking Skills
  • This workshop also had focused on leadership and teamworking skills graduate attributes as it consisted of several activities which need the participants to actively interact with each other. Thus, if I faced any difficulties in understanding and conducting a certain task, I need to bravely ask the facilitators or the conductor of the programs to help me. In result, I could improve my leadership and teamworking skills by interacting with new people around me.
• Adaptability
  • Adaptability was also on the focused graduate attributes in the workshop as the participants, especially the beginners who had no experience in web development had to adapt to the coding environment in terms of the platform, language and more.

CONTENT OF THE ACTIVITIES

The workshop started at 8.30am for participants’ registration and breakfast. At 9.15a.m. until 9.30a.m., the program continued with an opening speech by Dr. Afnizanfaizal, the person in charge in teaching the web development knowledge for the workshop. Next, having to hear an inspiring story and great experience from Dr. Afnizanfaizal, we then were required to install the Vscode to proceed with the next activity which was the teaching of HTML. This activity continued until 11.00am. Having to learn the concept and basic procedures of HTML, the participants were then given the chance to apply and implement the concept that we had just learnt in the hands-on activity. during this activity, I had a lot of fun as well as good knowledge as I got the opportunity to strengthen back my HTML concept with the help of the conductor and the facilitators. The program then stopped from 11.30a.m. until 12.30p.m. for lunch break. At 12.30p.m., the workshop continued with the teaching of CSS until 2.30p.m.. Similar to the teaching of HTML, we were also given the chances to do hands-on activity to strengthen our knowledge and skills in applying back all the information we had received regarding the CSS. We then had a break from 3.00p.m. until 3.10p.m. Afterwards, the workshop continued with the teaching of Bootstrap until 4.00 p.m. After learning all the HTML, CSS and Bootstrap concept, the workshop was then continued with the activity of website design. The participants got the chances to see as well as create a website with the help from the conductor, Dr. Afnizanfaizal and the facilitators. The workshop then officially ended at 5.00p.m.

2) Self Reflection

In short, this Web Development Workshop has given a lot of positive impacts to my graduate attributes. I am able to practice my communication skills while interacting with the other participants as well as the conductor and the facilitators while completing the tasks in the workshop. Not only that, the activities conducted in the workshop have also help me to enhance my thinking skills to a higher level, as it involved critical and higher order of thinking. I also get the chance to develop my leadership and teamworking skills as the activities given in the workshop need me to interact with the other participants while completing the tasks. Lastly, I also get the chance to improve my adaptability to a new knowledge and environment while participating in the workshop. Throughout the activities in the workshop, there are several challenges which I have faced. For instance, during the workshop, I face problems in following the conductor’s flow of teaching as it is a new knowledge for me. Thus, I have overcame this challenge by asking the facilitators to explain and teach me to help me understand certain concept. Next, I also have difficulties in communicating with the other participants while doing the activities. Thus, to avoid missing any important information, each time I faced any confusion regarding certain concept or activity, I have mastered my courage to ask for explanation from the other participants or the facilitators. To sum up, it cannot be denied that this Web Development Workshop was a really great and inspiring program for the students, especially for the computer science students.
