JUSTIFICATION IN JOINING THE ACTIVITIES
Code on Weekend was a program consisted of two workshops organized by Persatuan Mahasiswa Sains Komputeran (PERSAKA). Each of the workshops offered different types of knowledge for the students to explore. Thus, in this case, I had participated in both of the workshops. There were several reasons on why I eagerly wanted to participate in this workshop. As a computer science student, I realized that it is important for me to keep exploring new knowledge regarding the latest technology together with its implementation. Knowing that I was just an ordinary student who have no extraordinary skills in coding and in nowadays technology, I instantly wanted to participate in this program as it was focusing on machine learning and mobile application development, which were among the most important concepts in today’s technologies. Not only that, I also did not need to spend my money in joining the workshop as it was free.
THE GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES THAT ARE FOCUSED ON
- Communication Skills
- These workshops are focusing on communication skills as I need to actively communicate with the other participants and also the conductor while understanding and executing the tasks given during the whole session.
- Thinking Skills
- Thinking skills is also being focused on as the activities conducted in the workshops are consisted of new knowledge and skills which need the participants to stay focused and think continuously throughout the session.
- Leadership and Teamworking Skills
- I believed that the workshops are also focused on the graduate attribute of leadership and teamworking skills as I need to bravely lead myself in actively interacting with the other participants and the conductor while discussion is being conducted. Not only that, teamworking skill is also being focused on as in each activity, I need to communicate and discuss with the other participants to solve the challenges given by the conductor to us.
- Adaptability
- This workshop has also focused on adaptability graduate attribute as the participants need to adapt themselves in learning and exploring new knowledge and gaining new skills regarding Flutter Mobile App Development in a new platform.
CONTENT OF THE ACTIVITIES
As for the first workshop, which is the Machine Learning Using Phyton, the program started off with detailed introduction to machine learning in todays world. The conductor had touched about what machine learning is, the development of it, how it actually works in todays technology and how machine learning effects and influences human’s lifestyle todays. Afterwards, the conductor started to teach us on how to implement the concept of machine learning by explaining and showing an example of simple and basic coding. During this session, the participants were giving the chance to ask questions regarding things they were not sure of. We could also request for the conductor or his assistants to help us if we failed to follow the conductor’s instruction regarding the activities and task. Before the workshop ended, the conductor had shown us one of his projects which implements the concept of machine learning. It was so fascinating to see how the project executed as it successfully identifying the car’s plate number when the device captured it.
For the second workshop, which is the Flutter Mobile App Development, the program started with detailed introduction to the mobile application development. We had learnt on how mobile application develop, how it effects todays’ technology, and more. The conductor then explained regarding Flutter, one of the most popular methods that could be used in creating a mobile application. Afterwards, the program continues into the implementation and coding session where the conductor had shown us an example of Flutter coding and explained to us line by line for us to understand how it actually being implemented in creating a mobile application. The participants also were allowed to ask questions regarding any problems while executing the activities.
2) Self Reflection
All of all, this program had been a very inspiring platform for the participants, especially those who were eager in exploring new knowledge and skills in the world of information technology nowadays. The activities provided in this Code on Weekend program had given positive impacts to my graduates attributes which would surely enhance my quality as a computer science students. In this case, the activities in both of the workshops had been focusing on communication skills, thinking skills, leadership and teamworking skills, and also adaptability. Throughout the workshops, my graduate attributes had been significantly improved and enhanced. I got the chance to communicate with the conductor and other participants while executing the tasks. My thinking skills had also been tested and increased as I need to stay focus and learn a totally new knowledge regarding the machine learning and mobile app development. The activities provided in the workshops also helped to enhance my leadership and teamworking skills as it challenged me to brave myself in interacting with the other participants from different ages and races. The activities also influenced me to be more adaptable in all kind of challenges and difficulties in the progress of completing a certain work and task. Thus, I learnt that, in all challenges, there would be surely suitable and appropriate solutions to them. For instance, I need to bravely approach the correct person while looking for an answer to my problems. I must also believed in myself more while taking the responsibilities in completing certain tasks, whether it is an individual or group work. Not only that, I must also take the initiative to obtain new knowledge and skills from the others who are more experts and skillful than me. To sum up, this Code on Weekend program was a very suitable platform for the students to gain more knowledge as wells for those who are eager in improving their self-skills.
